i hate it when people (even self-professed fans of trance) label eurotrash songs by Orion Too or Solid Bass or whoever as techno/trance, when in reality, its just eurotrash

"I tell them I listen to trance music, techno and house music, and any other genre of music as long as I like it." After all I don't like every trance song I hear and I don't hate every hip-hop or pop song that I hear. Music is Music and I just prefer the deep soulful sounds of rythm that trance evokes. Nothing like freeing the movement of your body in a packed club.

HAHAHAAH
i think the next time i'm DJing at a party and i'm asked to play hip hop, ill just pretend to fall asleep and slump to the floor. Then, when they're not looking, i'll slowly inch away on the floor and make my getaway!

3 doors down - here without you, is a nice song that makes the top30, at least locally .

Also... whoever said 'instrumental hip hop' is funny

And when I get feedback about trance, i hear stuff like "songs are too long", "'techno' is not danceable, its too fast"..

On the PC Gamer UK forums we were having a massive argument about this. Apparently, trance isn't music because it "isn't done on real instruments", i.e synthesisers aren't real instruments. That is, until I pointed out that an electric guitar or keyboard is also electronic and so they can't count either.

Then we said that trance is made up on keyboards. One particularly stupid rock fan decided we meant pianos and came out with this classic line:

"I didn't think there were any dance tracks with pianos in them".

How the fuck is techno not danceable? Techno is based on a steady 4/4 rhythm...it hard NOT to dance to it... ah i hate it when people say that

Stereotypes suck, but you will find them with everything. I guess it is all about perspective. I mean, to an outsider, we all look like candykids, with the bright pants, and a glowstick in our hand (which is very untrue for a lot of people), but when I look at someone who listens to rap, all I see is:
bitches and hoes that are shaking their ass in the backround

Bling bling

cars and rims

Crystal being poured on the floor

Some dude talking about all his "ice" how many bitches he has fucked, how much money he has, how many people he has killed or is going to kill...blah blah blah, you get my point. But that doesn't mean that that person is only about all that shit. Some people don't know any better and can only copy what they see...poor little fools...
Just do your best not to stereotype others and if you happen to run into those assholes who insists of catagorizing you, either educate them about our scene or smack them across their fucking face.

Okay, let's write a rap record:

First up, a beat. Let's go for a really basic breakbeat made in about five seconds.
Second, a tune. Doesn't matter about it much, nobody cares about a tune in rap, do they?
Now the vocals. Hmm: fuck you ******, yeah, fuck you ******, yeah (repeat ad nauseum, i.e three seconds).

Now let's give it a stupid name everyone remembers:

50 pence- In the pub.

Done! Rap Number 1, in four easy steps.

Yeah, but anything higher than 125bpm is "way too fast!!!"

So about the stereotypes, I am plain sick of them.
I am Asian but I know the difference a quality track and a piece of crap 3 minute cheesefest made by "Dj Random Fancy Name."

The thing is, being Asian here in Houston, when people ask what kind of music I listen to, I say electronic dance music. However, electronica here is nothing but a bunch of cheesy breakbeat remixes of Dj Sammy, Lasgo, etc.

Most Asians here listen to Dj Sammy - heaven and say it's great while I show them tracks like Armin Van Buuren - Burned with Desire and they say it's pure crap because, according to them, "it ain't fly." Idiots.

I totally agree with you. My roommate last year bugged me so bad... I would play a quality tune like Veracocha - Carte Blanche, and he'd be like... man that's crap, listen to some good techno like... and he'd whip out a radio edit of Lasgo - Something and say that was quality and then he'd start bumping his head to it and like pump up the song. Then he'd counter me by saying, look at this, it's real techno and he'd put out Kerncraft 400 - Zombie Nation and Darude - Sandstorm... saying this were amazingly great tunes...
