I don't see why you're all calling PvD a hypocrite.

He played on song that was REMIXED by Ian van Dahl, probably the only IvD production worth shit. Now, does that make any of his other cheesy shitty tracks any less of a disgrace to the trance scene? No. The question they asked him left him wide open for making such a comment, and the only people getting pissy about this of course are people that hate PvD's music. It's hilarious to see you all defending Ian van Dahl to get PvD.

well dj sammy and ivd are not trance. but don't call them crappy just because you don't like them. other people do. AND (important point): many people (like myself ) drift into the trance scene via this kind of pop-mainstream-commercial-shit!!

Bad choice of words here, Paul.

Exactly. He must be reading all the posts here on TA too much, now he think he's God and can label others. Spin whatever you want Paul, but shut your fucking mouth!

i agree with what pvd is trying to say but not with how he said it. he just went too far with the trash talking on dj sammy/ian van dahl/etc and their fans. there probably are a lot of people who buys from those cheesy producers and also pvd stuff so paul really shouldnt be so hypocritical on that part. however, i do believe dj sammy and ian van dahl are crap. my roommate plays dj sammy and cheese "trance" and i get so sick of it that i have to put on my earphones to listen to some good and REAL trance. pvd is right in that dj sammy and company should have their own genre of music and not be considered trance because a friend of mine thinks that trance is shit because of artists like dj sammy/lasgo/etc. im not saying their songs are bad by default, i just cant stand that kind of music and it should not be considered trance. call it shitpop or something.

Here's what I think, somebody please tell me if I'm dead wrong:

You all hate DJ Sammy and Ian van Dahl. If you were asked about his music, you would say something along the lines of "His music is cheesy shit, it is a disgrace to the scene". PvD said the exact same thing, because he feels the same way you all do. I can guarantee that every single person who has made a post looking down on PvD's comments has said the same thing, so who are the real hypocrites here? The truth is, the people who have bashed on PvD's "misconduct" really don't care about DJ Sammy or Ian van Dahl's well being. They are doing it because they want to get PvD anyway they can because they resent his popularity. It is really quite sad, especially considering he has been a huge part of the scene for over a decade.

I don't resent Paul van Dyk or his popularity. I respect who he is and what he has done for the scene.

However-

I would not go around badmouthing artists whose remixes I played personally. Say there was an artist on the scene 'Artist A' who was known for making cheesy, commercial records. Everyone slagged on Artist A. Then Artist A produced a good album, and did some decent remixes. I decided I like Artist A's new remix so I play the record, gaining new found respect for Artist A. I discontinue my tirade against them because they have done something noteworthy that I have given enough liking to to actually play in front of a crowd.

The producer 'Darude' comes to mind ...

*cough* Music *cough*

I see what you mean. I guess this is why famous people can't really ever speak their mind.

Everyone is fully entitled to speak their mind, whether or not they are famous. Not everybody will agree with you or your stances, but as long as they respect them (which they should) it is what counts.

I respect what he has to say, I just don't feel it was in great taste is all.

Paul Van Dyk- What he has to say about TRANCE in the new MixMag...
In the October 2003 MixMag, Paul Van Dyk says the following about trance:

"Trance had become a dirty word. Thanks to Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo, Flip 'N' Fill and DJ Sammy, a generation of kids has grown up thinking trance is the shittiest music since country and western.

Along with Armin Van Buurren, Tiesto, and Ferry Corsten, Paul Van Dyk and tracks like 'Connected' have saved trance, steering it away from the bird-sings-over-80s-remake formula that was making trance a laughing stock, bringing it back to what it was always meant to be - fucking good dancefloor music that messes with your head.

He doesn't want to piss anyone off, so he doesn't like to talk about other DJs. With one exception: Ian Van Dahl gets a kicking for being completely 'cheesy'.

Cheesy records make proper trance look bad. Of course there are people who buy DJ Sammy records. They're not the same people that buy mine."

this is quoted from a magazine, but i doubt these are pvd's own words... why would he talk about himself in the 3rd person??? what is quoted here are the words of the magazine writer... not pvd... maybe that last part is pvd speaking, but otherwise...
i don't know pvd personally, but i can't imagine annyone being arrogant and elitist enough to say such things...
