not bad, but when you computer can't physically fit more than 3 drives + floppy + doesn't have enough power wires, it's kinda said.

by the way, my current power supply says "100W" on it. i'm wondering how the cock i've been able to use it for almost 4 years.

Whats ur budget for a new system?

AMD CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (2.00 GHz, 256k Cache) $97.00

Heatsink/Fan Options: Use a CoolerMaster DP5-7JD1B Fan (Silent Cooler) $0.00

Motherboard: GigaByte GA-7VT600-L with Audio/LAN (400MHz FSB) $83.00

RAM (1st stick): Corsair XMS 512 MB PC3200 DDR400, Heat Spreaders $147.00

DVD Drive (Read Only): Pioneer DVD-120 IDE DVD, 16x40x, Drive Only - Beige $55.00

Video Card: ATI RADEON 9000 128MB w/TV-Out (OEM) $70.00

Sound Card: SoundBlaster Live 5.1 (OEM) $35.00

Total: $ 532

ASUS A7N8X DELUXE motherboard, the best without any questions with all the features and only around ~125$

or get an nForce 2 board with built-in geForce 4 MX video, better than spending 50$ on ATI 9000, which sux + these motherboards have excellent sound onboard 6.1, no need to buy a separate card. The MB also come with 1 or 2 networks cards, USB 2.0, optional firewire/serial ata.

($100) AMD XP 2500+ BARTON (333 MHZ FSB)-> then you will overclock it to 2800+ very easily, simply by changing the multiplier in BIOS from 11 to 12.5, very easy

RAM, get 2 x 256 (333 Mhz pc 2700, not pc 3200)sticks of preferably Kingston HyperX (best choice) or Crucial XMS or other good known brand, make sure u RAM is low latency (timings 5-2-2-2) (CL=2.0), not CL=2.5

if you need new HD, get WD (western digital) , some 7200 rpm, 2 meg cache will do, 8 megs cache ones perform exactly the same, no difference.

Also, I would recommend getting a FULL-tower good case with good power supply, like Antec or ENERMAX.

That is EXACTLY what I said, I've seen people run Athlon XP2500 at XP3200 speeds (cant wait to get mine today!!).
The only thing I disagree with it the Kingston memory, which plain and simple sucks.
The best memory on the market right now is Corsair & Crucial.

Kingston HyperX is the best PC2700 (333 MHZ) memory on the market.

I benchmarked Corsair Extreme Performance sticks, and their stable timings only were 6-3-3-2(CL2)-1T, lower timings were crashing the system. and Crucial was a rip off in price.

Kingston HyperX runs purely on 5-2-2-2(CL2.0)-1T, stable as rock in dual channel mode (tried both 256 and 512 sticks).

Now benchmark scores -> Kingston bechnmarked almost 22% higher than Crucial/Corsair + it was cheaper.
