I was technically a click away from buying this off ebay. Was too afraid i wouldn't be able to ge tthis installed though. Couple of things i need to ask
I have a PC laptop i know it partitions etc but is there a diff playing it off linux on PC or playing it off Mac? I'm really not too good wit hthe comp so i need something user-friendly.
Is it hard to get the system installed and up and running and getting used to the feel of it? There isn't a Stanton distributor here so if i'm stucked..i'm fucked.
If I was taking this to play in a club and i set up the system before my gig can the people who opens for my set use the setup to play normal records?

i cant agree with this attitude because if you NEVER knew that this was taking place ( usage of the final scratch)
you would stil be jamming on the dancefloor as if NOTHING was any different

I think if you're well read on the whole Final Scratch topic then it can be seen in a positive light.

HOWEVER - since the majority of ppl don't bother to educate themselves about things it can only lead to the assumption that anyone who uses it doesn't buy vinyls and downloads all their music to spin at the club and evil sites like tranceaddict that offer downloads must die.

^^ So true. More then 80% of the mp3's that i have on my final scratch, i own a copy on record. The other 20% are the impossible to find tunes which i cant find (but i do try and track them down)

So do these final scratch records last forever, or do they wear out over time and need to be replaced? If they need to be replaced, how much do replacement records cost?

Ive had fs for a year. I replaced one record, a couple of weeks ago. The 2nd one needs replacement soon. It all depends on which needles you use. With the ortofon concorde's you can get a years play out tof them without scratching them up . Replacement cost for the fs records are about 30-40 $$

hey thanks. im the guy who asked do you still use a mixer. This was the first time i had ever even heard of this product, and was totally confused. i assumed that it was like other dj programs, which get rid of all the equipment except the PC, and it was just a good mixing program. guess i was wrong.

and as to why i didnt search for it? i dont know a lot about mixing equipment, and find some of the technicalities go over my head. So i thought maybe someone could simplify for me! thanks to those who have.

Does anyone know if PvD,Hawtin or Liebing etc have their tunes on the laptop in mp3 or wav format? If they had them in mp3 format wouldn't it sound worse than using vinyls because of the compression used. I know that at on home sound systems it can be very hard to distinguish between vinyls/cds and mp3s but on a club sound system with lower bass frequencies etc wouldn't it be a bit noticeable and therefore wouldn't professionals be reluctant to use it?

I'd say a high quality MP3, if you get the bit rate to 192kbps at least with a GOOD compressor, it will sound fine, most (not all)people can't notice the difference between that and Vinyl in most settings. Anything lower then 192 is crap though, and if 192 is done w/ a bad compressor or from a bad source, it can be bad too.

I saw a DJ here in seattle use FS the other night, it was fine I guess. His 'records' skipped a few times and it sounded really weird, not like a normal vinyl skip. Not sure what the deal was.
