i hear from alot of people that both sony and pio sound similar. plus you wont be listening to a well burned in headphone so the bass response among other things is gonna get even louder when they are broken in.
if you want balanced sound get the sennheiser hd-280.

Agreed, I've been using the HD-280 for about 2 months, I have no problems at all, very clear with nice bass response.

as said earlier, i was going to try out both
MDR-V700 and HDJ-1000
and so i did..
but, i was kinda surprised
i mean, the sound in both was nice, not that dif. in my ears.
but the thing that surprised me was how unconfortable they wore on my ears!!
could be that i'm justed used to something else.
but the headphone cop goes around the ear on those phones i got atm,
and on both Sony & pioneer the cop is on your ear, and to around as i want.
so you probaly say, why don't use those you already have?
and thats maybe so.. but they cost maybe 1/10 of The Sony Headphones so the sound qual sucks compare to them.. (or they should.. )
therfor i wonder if some you of know any other headphones that has a different shaped headphone-cop that don't lay directly on you air?

this post may be irrelevant since i use my headphones religiously at work, school, and home. . . . .but the plastic pieces on both ends of the PIONEER black band can come off if you are not careful and pull on it. There is only tape under the plastic to stick it to the black band.
PM me if i dont make any sense
cheers.!
