I use MSN, not because I like it, I actually hate it, but because everybody these days uses it unfortunately. I find it to be a ridiculously childish application. For example, what's with the ridiculous "says:" after the senders name? Makes it incredibly irritating if you want to save the convo and there's no need for it. Also, the "...is writing a message". It originally said "...is typing a message". When I saw that I said to myself, "Is this program really aimed at people so young that they won't even know what typing means?" . Then the pointless (IMO) addition of display pictures introduced with 6.0.
MSN Messenger only ever took off because it's Microsoft, and their usual clever tactics of making their program the "first priority" to use, just like they did to Netscape with IE back in the 90's. Microsoft have preloaded MSN with all versions of Windows since 2000 and with all versions of IE from 5.x. Now it seems just about everyone over the age of 8 has an MSN account these days.
When I hate MSN this much, why do I use it and not a third party client you may ask? Well, I did have Trillian before my HD crashed and while I liked it better than MSN, it takes ages to set up and still wasn't that good. Miranda is too complicated to set up and unstable. So I guess I've fallen for Microsoft and their "first priority" tactics, but blah, I hope a decent third party client comes round and I can remove this shit.
