guys, there IS no next step...
it's all bullshit, if someone said "you'll like prog after you understand trance," it's bs, it depends strictly on your taste...
as for me, i just got tired of listening to melodic stuff, that's it, so for the next 2-5 days i'll listen to other stuff, that's why asked for recommendations. i've done it before, and i've always come back to melodic. i'm not saing trance sucks and that i'm gonna stop listening to it for the rest of my life, ffs! and i'm not going to dance, just listen!
p.s. that global communication stuff is wicked

I've always felt that the salvation of trance in its current state is tech-trance. Marco V and Katana are virtually the only ones paving the way, aside from the occasional hard production from Tiesto (Flight 643, Traffic) and Paul (Out There, Movement).
Trance needs to leave this fluffy uplifting side of itself for a while, stop beating a dead horse, and move on, at least temporarily. The dark side of trance has barely had room to breathe. Check out Deniro - Mind of Man and think of the possibilities.

i kinda miss the old-school mid-nineties stuff with goa elements... the '99 oakey psysymphonic music... in any case, there will always be people who do like only the melodic stuff, so we can't just abandon it completely.

Yeah, me too. I've always liked the trance that was inbetween the UK goa boom and the '99 explosion, like on the early Hook releases. I think a hard version of this style would kick the crap out of uplifting for at least a little while; like a fusion of dark trance and tech-trance.

You'll probably find any album by Boards of Canada refreshing, especially their album "Music Has The Rights To Children". The track Telephasic Workshop is great.

OMFG can i be like you?
btw, it's usually the other way around; your friends usually get you away from mainstream american craprap, not into it
your a joke

Way ahead of ya.
Grab the WOW set from djmixes 2k. It's pretty good.
But actually I still listen to some old tiesto & armin stuff sometimes from years back.
You sicken me. It isn't possible to be sick of trance, that's just wrong.
It goes against nature ffs

also check out the Sigur Ro's sorta radioheadish Iclandic band. very awsome.
also with all this talk right now with the new GU and such, check out James Lavelle's mix comps and some DJ shadow
