yeah i dont post often here. that doesnt mean i dont know anything about dance music. i had been on dance forums for many years, probably you still havent even been on the internet at the time.

Techno can be a description for the whole EDM, if you take it from the word TECHNOlogy! But you can also take it as a style...
It really depends on the people(/scene) and how they got in contact with EDM.
In Austria e.g.there is quite often a quarrel about if sth is SCHRANZ or Techno...

Techno is percussion-centered, and trance for the most part is melody-centered. That is the easiest way to think of it.
Also, most techno is non-progressive, and most trance is progressive (speaking in technical terms on how the arrangement of the tracks works).
Techno was born in the US and was one of the Parent-genres of EDM.
Trance was born in the UK/Germany as far as I know
