I suspect no one will read this since there's a lot here already, but I'll post anyway.


Boy, doesn't get more existential than this, does it? So what did your parents have planned for you when they decided to have kids? School, more school, and a job all day for the rest of your life. What for? "A secure source of income and a pension plan." And they expect you to get married and put a new generation through the same thing. And what is life according to this? Relationships, religion, problem-solving, good and bad news, food, sleep, work, and watching TV. Not a lot else. (Yes I'm exaggerating so hold your fire, folks.)

The ones who have the biggest problem with this paradigm are artists, aspiring musicians, which I noticed a lot of you are. For such a soul, life takes on a whole other meaning. An artist is moved by beauty and is driven to understand it, to recreate it, to emotionally impress outside bodies in return, and in the process verify and fulfill his/her very existence and connect closer to the beauty of the world. It's a pretty strong drive, one that makes more fundamental pursuits like getting a 'real' job seem like pointless distractions. No wonder there are starving artists.

And then you have the temptations of the anti-corporate movement and the political left, which I may elaborate on in another post if prompted to...
