When it comes to vocals it is the quality of the lyrics that you have to consider. If they have had some thought put into them then sure vocals are great. Why do vocals in trance songs have to be so cheesy generally, why can't lyrics be like other genres of music where they are the focus not just an after thought. Not too say all trance songs are like this, but there is lots out there.

I'd say that for every great vocal track, there's at least 20-30 crappy ones released. The worst is when you hear a song that would be great if instrumental, but is ruined by cheese lyrics. Ugh.

System F - Spaceman comes to mind as an example. I totaly hate the vocals, but the song is not that bad.

BTW i found a vocal mix (its says that AvB did it,is that true?) of solar stone - seven cities Thats one song that is beautiful enough without any vocals...they jus ruin it

I don't think all genres of music are susceptible to cheesy lyrics but yea I wish they were more than just an afterthought.

I love vocals, but sometimes a dub is way better then a vocal mix.
Chicane, Oceanlab etc are great but e.g. the vocal mix of Live Another Life...

Rule of the thumb is, if the song was around long enough without the vocal, vocals will ruin it (ex: Warrior - Drama, Riva - Stringer, Rank 1 - Airwave (with original male vocal)).. Exception: Armin - Song to the Ocean

Otherwise, if the vocal mix was there from the beggining, then the vocals are usually just fine.

So yeah..

no way! Vocals are awesome in lots of songs...I usually like vocal versions of songs better, as long as the vocals are not stupid haha. Then again, i guess that pretty much goes for any song. Certain vocal tracks have such compelling lyrics and beautiful voices from the singers...However, I tend to dislike male vocals in trance...

Or maybe im just a dumb girl who likes to sing in the shower haha

Two words :

Delerium - Silence

Still reduces me to tears when I hear it on the odd occasion.

IMO the human voice is still the most expressive and emotional of all instruments, when used by someone who knows what they're doing

Really? See, I'm the exact opposite, I get tired of hearing female vocals in trance all the damn time. Unless the voice is really distinctive, like the girl's voice from Iio for one obvious example, it just comes out sounding like every other vocal in a trance track. But just like with female vocalists, though, a male vocalist has to have the right sound, otherwise it will come out sounding too cheesy.

I love the vocalist in Kane - Rain Down on Me, I think he has a very sexy voice, but I can see how after a couple of listens (and this song is overplayed) it can become cheesy.

I'm kinda the opposite to that, never heard Marco's original "I Feel You", but the PvD & Thomas Datt remixes of it bore the arse of me, whilst the V.ision Dub blows me away!

Edit:Hmm, well I thought it was the V.ision Dub, but it's Solarize. Bleh.

if a song sounds good doesn't matter vocals are not it all comes down to the heart, if you can feel a track, thats what makes it good. as far as male vocals probably the best male vocals i've ever heard are on.... (have to look it up)... ah yes,Amoebassassin - Piledriver, that has me jammin for all 10 minutes

i recon when the producer has either made the music around the vocals or created both together then they tend to be ok. i bet most of the crap ones have been the people have added the vocals after.
