Okay. I think it's fair to say raves were basically invented with certain substances in mind. That doesn't mean you MUST get mashed if you go to one. But, be prepared to accept that most do.
Meeting new people? I met my ex-girlfriend at a rave, and together at other events we've met many people who we don't see again, but also four of whom we interact with in our daily, non-raving lives. Hell, they even came to our Christmas party!
I can't speak for anyone else, but I play it as safe as possible when I attend an event on Ecstacy. Reliable source, road test, test kit, no big doses, no over-exertion. I insist on the same from anyone else I know at that event.
Also, I highly doubt Ecstacy kills 50 Australians a year. In this country... you could probably could the number on one or two hands for all time, not just a year.
That doesn't mean it's safe, but again you can count on many of those deaths occuring due to other substances in the pill, or a heat-related incident.
And, I'm afraid I'm going to have to be another person who says it's just an alternative to drinking... you can take that on board or not, but drinking in a top-40 club and rolling at a rave are more similar than you think... just that one happens to be shittier music and the other is using a controlled substance
I respect people's views and will not push them if they want to be straight at a rave. Perhaps some of you on the other side of the fence should do the same.
Raves will always be seen as parties with illegal drugs and underground dance music... because that's what they were originally intended to be. But you make it what you want it to be.
