SuperFarStucker, actually it goes something like this:
FF1 Japan (Famicom) = FF1 US (NES)
FF2 Japan (Famicom) = Not Released (later released on FF Origins on PSX)
FF3 Japan (Famicom) = no US release, unfortunately
FF4 Japan (SFC) = Released on FF Collection on PSX
FF4 Easytype Japan SFC) = FF2 US (Super NES)
FF5 Japan (SFC) = No US SNES release, later released on FF Anthology (PSX)
FF6 Japan (SFC) = FF3 US (Super NES)
From 7 onward, the game's US and Japanese names are the same.
FFVII by far...had the best storyline, soundtrack, gameplay imo. FFIV, which i believe came out in FF Chronicles for the PSX which included Chrono Trigger as well, is also very good despite the graphics...likewise had one of teh best plots of the series imo

I would think it's more of a prequel though since everyone dies in the end
not everyone dies in the end...remember Red XIII and his children after the credits...and since Cloud is in the movie (which supposedly takes place 2 years after the game) obviously they had not died

FFIV = FF2 US, so i vote for FFIV as it was the most kick ass FF game ever. screw flashy 3d colors.

obviously Midgar is in shambles...but what you say after is absurd since you just contradicted yourself..if "everyone but the animals die" then why would they show Red XIII and Cloud afterwards?!
plus in the movie sample of Advent Children, they show Barrett and Vincent (although those may be flashbacks, not certain yet)

Well it was kind of strange but there was that caption that said something like "xxxx years later", then they showed Red XIII and his family. So what happens in between those times? Maybe this movie will tell
