meaningless friendly? australia is playing a one day and test series against sri-lanka at the moment. but a world cup isn't imminent so i guess those games are all meaningless? afl is having its pre-season competition but its not the real season so the games are meaningless? when there isn't a major international tournament or something on what do you expect the players to do in the meantime? sit around and play fifa on playstation?
australia is on the other side of the world to everyone else, soccer isn't as big as it is in other nations and we don't have that many really skilled opposition nations that close, so i think any friendly game we can get is a good thing! the more practise we can get at this level the better!
if we get more friendly games against other international teams that do mean something to us ie playing a south american nation in south america seeing as that is the way we have to go to get into the world cup, it can only make us better prepared for next time.
i think we should be playing as many international games as we can get, and try and get more. it gives the players more opportunities to play together instead of once every couple of months or something and gives more practise for the next tournament. i don't think any of these games are meaningless.
ps
"uruguay? i'd hate to live there!!" haha
