Is not like you going to wake up one day and decide that you want to be gay . Heard about x and y chromosomes ? I think x is a male and y is a female chromosome. Some male was born with more female chrmosomes thats why they are attractive to guys and thats goes in the other way.

You don't know much about biology do you?

/wondering what the chromosome is for people into bestiality

That's what I've been saying too, though in a less succinct manner.

FFS if even Mexico can get it right...

You and I both know that marriage and civil unions will never be separated as they should be though.

Rosie O'Donnell Plans to Wed Girlfriend

Thursday, February 26, 2004

SAN FRANCISCO — Rosie O'Donnell (search) flew across the country Thursday to marry her longtime girlfriend in the city where more than 3,300 other same-sex couples have tied the knot since Feb. 12.

The couple traveled to San Francisco from New York on Thursday morning, said Cindi Berger, O'Donnell's publicist. They have a 1 p.m. appointment to pick up a marriage license, according to the mayor's office.

"We, too, have a dream of equality for all families," the comedian and former talk show host said in a statement. "The only way changes are made in society is when people like Mayor Gavin Newsom have the courage to stand up against injustice."

City officials didn't know who O'Donnell wants to officiate when she marries her girlfriend, Kelli Carpenter (search), said Francisco Castillo, a spokesman for the mayor. The women plan to take their vows on the steps of City Hall, according to Berger.

Earlier Thursday, O'Donnell announced her wedding plans on ABC's "Good Morning America," just two days after President Bush (search) called for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

She said the president's call is what inspired her to come to San Francisco, where city officials continue to perform same-sex weddings even as state courts are considering the legality of those marriages.

"I think the actions of the president are, in my opinion, the most vile and hateful words ever spoken by a sitting president," O'Donnell said on the program. "I am stunned and I'm horrified.

"I find this proposed amendment very, very, very, very shocking. And immoral. And, you know, if civil disobedience is the way to go about change, then I think a lot of people will be going to San Francisco. And I hope they put more people on the steps to marry as many people as show up. And I hope everyone shows up."

O'Donnell said she decided to marry Carpenter, a former dancer and marketing director at Nickelodeon, during her recent trial in New York over the now-defunct Rosie magazine. During the case, she referred to Carpenter as her wife.

"We applied for spousal privilege and were denied it by the state. As a result, everything that I said to Kelli, every letter that I wrote her, every e-mail, every correspondence and conversation was entered into the record," O'Donnell said. "After the trial, I am now and will forever be a total proponent of gay marriage."

Well it's not your theory that being gay might have something to do with genetics, I myself beleive that. It's your presentation of that theory that was completely wrong. First, the x chromosome is the female chromosome and the y chromosome is the male. Secondly, all humans have 22 numbered pairs of chromosomes plus 2 sex chromosomes. Any more or less would probably not be very human. So one cannot simply "add" chromosomes.

Furthermore, your characterization of being gay as a chromosomal "birth defect" is also incorrect. Being gay has never been considered a chromosomal abnormality since deletion, duplication or rearrangement of a chromosome region big enough to include two or more contiguous genes does not take place. If one were to consider it a disorder at all, if anything, it would be a multifactorial disorder involving multiple genes and environmental factors. So you see, it is not a "defect" comparable to blindness, mental retardation, etc.

Perhaps your choice of using the phrase "birth defect" may be a little off, but the cause of both homosexuality and birth defects may be similar - mutations, or might be something completely different - studies showing hormone levels in prenatal growth stages attributing homosexual behavior.

And then, of course, there's also the possibility of environmental influences (i.e. nurture).

The truth is, we don't know exactly the cause, though recent studies have suggested natural causes are likely more influental than nurtural factors on later behaviors.

If Bush insists on keeping the "sanctity of marriage", then he might as well ban divorces as well, since that is a violation of marriage too.

** Galapidate, I do see where you are comming from with the "divorce is a violation of marriage too." Yet, I believe, correct me though if I am wrong, divorce is only a violation under Catholicism...only the Catholic church believes that?!!!?

not quite. Marriage, according to the church, is also an oath sworn between two people of different sex. So to divorce is to break that oath, which violates the premise of marriage.

You are sort of right about catholicism. Catholics are the only branch of christianity that openly opposes and does not allow divorce.

But, even if it is only the catholics that shun divorce, divorce is still in violation of oath sworn in marriage.

** Thanks for correcting me so I didn't look that stupid. Also, you are right about marriage. As the whole point is marriage is somewhat neglected in the world. Atleast if there are people who stay inlove with that one person, it should not matter who it may be.

Well most of the arguments from Bush against gay marriage have come from Christian beliefs, and last time I checked there was a thing called separation of Church & State. If Catholics believe divorce violates the religion, yet there is still divorce in this country, why can't there be gay marriage even if some Christians believe it goes against their beliefs?
