No vocals. Words are soooooo incredibly limiting it isn't even funny. Why limit expression when you don't have to?

I listen to electronica, namely trance, because it's the only kind of music that I have never gotten tired of hearing on a day to day basis.

No other reason, really. It just keeps me going, I guess.

I like electronica just because. It moves me, it makes me dance, it makes me feel great. It's the most emotional kind of music for me, I get more out of it than I do from any other form of music. To me, electronica is a release. I draw more energy and personal reward from it than anything else.

I love the culture around it. I love how it feels so much more like a big global community instead of a massive marketing machine. In a club or rave, I love how you can really go nuts on a dancefloor and feel so much closer to the music, the crowd and the DJ than you would feel at a rock concert or something, where there's a very clear separation between performer and audience.

Seriously though, it's all a matter of taste. Some people find great fulfillment in rock or country, some in pop, others in jazz. Electronica just does it for me, it completes me. Dance music is my life, and I'll never stop loving it

there are so many reasons, where to start....

first and foremost, electronica (mainly trance for me) is what rock was 30 years ago: an art form. i don't know if you guys are into the doors, floyd, zepplin, etc., but back then music was art. songs like stairway or riders on the storm, and albums like dark side of the moon were meant to be appreciated as art. there was a complexity and a depth that popular music nowadays just doesn't have.

today, electronica posesses the same spirit. artists aren't in it to get rich or get laid, they are in it because they love it. the music itself reflects the appreciation of the creator. there is enormous complexity involved in almost every track out there. crank up your stereo or put on some headphones and you will hear these fine details you can't get anywhere else. you can listen to mixes over and over, hearing new things each time, appreciating certain elements that you didn't before, and relishing the beats and melodies that you enjoy just as much as the first time.

this music takes you on a journey. with electronica, the artist can create literaly any sound that his or her brain can come up with. the possibilities are limitless. artists keep coming up with new sounds, continually re-defining the genre. the newer stuff is fresh, but that doesn't mean the older stuff is stale. i still listen to my favorite essential mixes from 99 just as much as anything else.

some people listen because they don't like to be in the mainstream. they could care less what they listen to, so long as it's not popular. people whine about somehting they love 'going mainstream'. fuck that. i would LOVE it if trance and other forms of electronica went mainstream. i WISH people could share in the experience. i long for the day when i can chat it up with a guy on the street about tiesto's latest, when i could say avb is my favorite musician and not get a "who's that?" so long as it remains true, i will be proud to listen to trance whether or not it's represented on the billboard hot 100.

it all boils down to this: electronica is art, and that is why i listen.

I just had an epiphany, this explains why there's so much arguing on these forums, cuz most of us are non-conformists with rebelious spirits.

I like it cuz most people at EDM events are not stuck up and it effects my emotions and helps me escape. i like the underground aspect, but I would like it even if it wasn't underground. (although I'm going to do my part to keep it underground).

Hmm...

Because producers have the ability to create some complex and deeply moving melodies.

Because with a synth, there are virtually limitless ways to manipulate sound effects.

Because it's constantly evolving, one year the big thing may be Drum & Bass, then the next year, the big thing may be UK Garage... I like a lot of different dance styles, not just trance and prog (though those 2 are my favorite). Most other musical genres are either stale or extremely slow to develop.

Because I listened to 80's music and played NES frequently when I was growing up, so the use of tons of synths in music was ingrained in my head.

And yeah, even because it's a lesser known, more underground thing in the states, free of many of the pitfalls that come with commercialism (for the most part).

Exactly. Its better than rnb for ME. the question was why do YOU like electronica, this is why I like it better. The author asked for our opinion and i expressed it

I don't see why it's so silly. Everyone has a different reason for liking EDM and it's nice to explain your reasons without having to worry about getting bashed by others. (Unlike here, where everybody seems to be taking pot shots at the thread starter just because he posted some reasons that they don't agree with )

For me, I liked the music ever since I first heard it. I was always a big fan of Disco even if it had died out before my time. I could never really understand why, until after I heard electronic music which I realized it was for the synth. There's just so much you could do with it. It started appealing to me more than rap or rnb, which I was big on in the mid to late 90's. Rap was just getting boring, I started getting tired of hearing how much ice they had around their necks and how many hos they fucked and so on. And the rave scene just captivated me more than any rock or hip hop concert ever could. I loved the light shows, the flamboyant dress styles of different people, and the energy of the crowd once they hear that "right" beat that has them rocking the house.

I love EDM for what it is: music, art, variety, dance, and euphoria. It is inspiring, moving, saddening, uplifting, and energetic. It has taken me to places in my mind that I've never reached before. And the fact that it is not the more widely chosen genre of music by people only makes it even more...intimate. For some, it's only music, for others...it's a way of life.
