Prog is just as dead as uplifting trance.

Good genres never die. Sure, everything hits a rut now and then, but everything is eventually resurrected in one form or another. I agree that uplifting trance and progressive have both been in a solid slump for quite a while, but that doesn't mean the styles are necessarily over and done. It just means that the next "big thing" to hit either scene is going to be exceptionally "big".

Uh, you're a few years late. Prog took over in 2001-2002.

And uplifting isn't exactly dead, just in a coma on life support.

Getting back to the subject, can I ask what are all you prog heads doing on a "Tranceaddict" site, slating Trance?

Wasting your own time by the looks of it.

Yup, leave it to the Americans to start something like this...

...oh wait, I'm American...sigh...and we wonder why folks from almost every other country hate us.

Come on now, it's not dead because people still listen to it, myself included. I love trance and will always love it. Just because I don't really listen to prog mean I have to come on here or some other message board to say it's crap or dead. Listen to what it is you listen to and go about your business...

Usesless thread # 1,213,354,816, jus because you dont listen to it doesnt mean its dead. I used to think like that too, jus because I didnt watch Drew Carey, I thought no one ele did, but he proved me wrong for 8 horrible years.

This thread really is quite pathetic, and the sad part about it is that about 95% of the people who have responded to it aren't making it any better. You can't blame this on the thread's author being an American, either. You're all just as lame for engaging in such a petty argument.

Seriously... I don't see why anyone has to slam genres that they don't particularly like to listen to.

People like you will always be into something until it's no longer seen as cool to do so, and the scene doesn't need that. There are a lot of tracks worth hearing in many styles, techno, psy, epic trance, tech-trance etc, if you really dislike trance that much then fuck off to progaddict or breaksaddict or whichever one is the one you want to hump next. Trance will never die, the only thing dying is the support of people who don't really contribute to it in the first place, and that's a good thing cos it might get better again if everyone and their pet cat stopped trying to like it.

This "warcry" of trancers is as nearly worn out as these threads themselves. For starters, its flat out wrong taking into the account the number of assumptions it makes. It's a lot easier to file everyone under their own little stereotyped categories than it is to face the real issue. The ratio of shit:good in trance long since went pear-shaped. To be fair, you can only combat "fire with fire"

It's a sign when people ITK consider "above and beyond", MIKE, Paul Van Dyk and "rank 1" as the "premiere artists" of an ENTIRE genre of music that it has probably gone to hell. When these artists aren't too busy making songs that abuse the already tired whore of "epic trance" (which a large many seem to thing is synonymous with "trance", I'm afraid I find it to be poorly representative), they are busy trying to come off as serious or whatnot while simultaneously producing total shit that is insulting to your intelligence. What I consider music doesn't come with a , it doesn't come pre-packaged into some nice little container format that is fit to abuse ad nauseum.

In what I find fit to call music there exists dynamics. Every song doesn't revolve around 3 minutes of beat-less masturbation and another 3 minutes of intro and another 3 minutes of exit and the other 30 seconds delegated to a drumroll. When you can skip to a completely different part in an album and not have to listen for 30 seconds to realize you're listening to a different track. These specific things might not apply to every single track by above producers as I'm sure the quick witted among us will point out but I'm confident you can piece together what I'm saying by now.

No doubtedly I'm already inciting blood pressure spikes in some "epic-trancer's" brain as s/he reads this message. Perhaps some flaming will eliminate said condition.
