obviously it isn't about what you'll make starting out...its about how much growth your salary will take over the span of your career...

I read a paper that listed the top 10 overpaid professions and some of them were:
Orthodontist (350,000+/year)
Wedding Photographer (5,000+ / day)
Airplane Pilot (200,000+ year)
Airport Baggage Man (150,000+ year)
Mutual Fund Broker


Mine isnt on the list either. boohoo.

mine isn't on the list simply because we work on commission

interesting article...and pretty much false...

The most senior pilots in our company make a bit over 100K, and the Top pilots at our sister top out at about 160....and that's if you've been there for 20+ years....it's not like you start there. And as far as baggage handlers...they are mostly starting at $8-10 an hour and supervisors are probably comforatable at 40-50K a year.

Our industry is one of the most over glamourized in terms of pay...the general public is so mis-informed. I started 4 years ago as an airline pilot making 18,000 dollars, and qualified for food stamps....not to mention to get that 18,000 dollar a year job, it cost me over 100,000 grand to get the education/flight training to get there. I would hardly ever call us over-paid.

The writer of that article needs to be drug out on the street and shot.

I think it was also on 60 minutes or one of those news shows on tv. The reason for pilots being overpaid in major airlines is because much of the work is automated they said amongst other things. They arent talking about people just coming out of flight school they are talking about senior pilots on major airlines and i've always heard pilots make lots of money

In a 2003 issure of Forbes...i was reading about a guy named Sorenson...who is now worth $4 billion...he owns 32 companies...and 40 U.S pattens. He was a dislexic community college drop out. Does any1 know a college with a class like Multi Millionaire 101?

Thanks for the article...and it basically states everything you need to see that only the most senior pilots make those dollars. If it took the average...it wouldn't make the list. They basically contradict their whole point of putting it on the list after the first sentence, citing pay cuts, low fare airlines, and regionals.

Also note that the article is a Commentary, and is thus not necessarily based on fact, which is quite noticable in the fact that he doesn't take the mean average of a pilots salary, and he used pre-2001 pay rates to stake his claim. Things are much different now. I would agree that much of our work is "systems managers" more than hand flying, but we work long days (up to 16 hours) and spend half our nights away from home...I'm gone on average 400 hours away from home in a month...(take a 40/hr work week x 4 or 5)...nearly twice as much!!! Now, after I put in 20+ years...I better damn well be getting overpaid, and will be happy to say I am...but for now...I'm comforatably in the middle-class.

Like I say, and as you can even read in his own article, from what ever sources he has compiled, his basis for being "over-paid" on average is quite askew. And this only looks at my profession..as far as the other 9 on the list, I have no basis for comment.

I restate my opinion that he should be shot....multiple times with a paintball gun from close range.

On the 3rd site you posted, it said on average in the DC area Webmasters make $70+ thousand!!! Somehow this seems horribly inaccurate...
But if it's true...IM IN THE MONEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I'd say this must be fairly acurate. I believe DC is still classified as a northern state hence the higher than average income. Up here its not uncommon to make $80K+ as a webmaster(considering you know your stuff). I know because I work with them all the time as I'm a designer.
