Yeah, if you look at a lot of ambient/new music that preceeded and was influential to trance... a lot of those pieces are really long and involving (and evolving!). Like Mike Oldfield has been named, Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis (some of his anyway -- he's good at the radio-play truncation too), soforth and soforth... if a track's going to be that long for me, personally, i want to hear lots of dynamics and changes though.
