Dammit. Im joining the ranks of the others who have heard xpander and havent gotten why its so popular. I saw sasha live once and it was good but not amazing. Im keeping an open mind though and ill listen to it again BUT.....

FOR THE GUY WHO HAS HIS LIST AS THAT TRACK #1 OF ALL TIME AND THEN SUBURBAN TRAIN AS NUMBER 2 I DUNNO WHAT IS GOING ON. TIESTO IS A FAVORITE FOR ME AND I STILL WOULDNT GIVE URBAN TRAIN THAT HONOR..

yeah definitely in my opinion the three tracks that define the progressive genre are:

Sasha - Xpander
Sander K - My lexicon
Bedrock - Heaven Scent

glad that you have finally seen the light beyond the tunnel

When I heard it the first time I also didn't like it too much but after I gave it a second chance, the track is fascinating!!! It is neither too epic or too slow. I wouldn't even know how really to describe it when its more like a feeling you get that the song is perfect that really takes you on a PROGRESSIVE journey. The song evolves but is super consistent and melodic. It's really interesting to see how it changes but stays the same kind of like us humans. It's a very subjective thing of course when I find the right words to describe it I'll let you know but maybe something like TIMELESS. There's like 6 buildups and breakdowns that get better everytime, maybe you should give it another shot.

There are 2 xpander's by the way
Sasha - Xpander
Marc Dawn - Xpander or Expander

It's funny that in Marc Dawn's it really sounds like an orgasm b/c of the breath at the end but again Sasha's is like sex that is both quality and quantity. Disturbing how such a track w/out a word can get inside you like xpander does.

one thing I dont like about Sashas stuff is that the melody levels are usually too low. Therefore the melodies sound like they are buried in with the drum beat.

You have to turn it up to appreciate it

otherwise you wont hear it at all.

maybe you should get your hearing checked. i think Xpander and most of Sasha's productions are all about the layering, texture and subtlety. imagine Xpander's melody as the main riff in a System F track.

the melody might not be in your face, but it is lineally developed and its progression is what makes Xpander such an unique track for its time.

I agree 100% with you. Those three have to be the most amazing prog tracks of all time.
