I've had dinner at Oro. I found it to be just okay. Maybe it was the company - it was an odd sort of evening with my then BF and mother just before I broke up with my BF, so I wasn't in the best of spirits.

The food was pricey and the servings were small, but DELICIOUS. I remember them having an extensive wine menu, tho we didn't drink much. For 3, it came to about $200.

Atmosphere was just okay.

I personally am a big fan of URBAN, 300 King W (or maybe it's 200). I've eaten there 5 times in the last year or so with my BF - it is our fave place in the city. They have a diverse menu, awesome, cozy atmosphere, rooftop patio too. Great drink menu. Reasonably priced. Can't say enough about it...it's perfect.

The Boiler House in the distillery district is incredible as well. They have live jazz through dinner on weekends.

Lobby is a great place as well - the patio is more for lounging though and not dining. Their mac and cheese app is incredible.

If you go to Susur, don't plan on spending less than $400 for the whole experience.

Kalendar is great on college and was rated the #1 place to bring a date last year.

Vivoli at College and Grace has a wicked rooftop patio and an extensive pizza menu. Very reasonably priced too.

Tats it, I wasnt too sure on the name.

If this is a first date, then I am with my main man Ziggy on this one. McDonalds or any other fastfood joint. Why? It's quite simple really, if your date is a stingy materialistic bitch, you'll definitely know it right away by her reaction to your selection, if she's a cool down to earth chick, she'll get a good chuckle or two out of the experience, if she does nothing but complain then that relationship is not worth persuing. Fine dining only comes later on in a relationship.

I'd laugh my ass off, but I'd only be ok with mcdonalds if my date and I ate in the parking lot listening to Jazz FM - how romantic!!!

It'd be a perfect choice if you wanted to show her what a fatty you are.

There are much better places to test out what you are suggesting - like cheap little cafes and such. McDonalds just proves you're trying to block her arteries instead of win her heart.

Good luck ShadoWolf on the semi-formal restaurant for the family. 14 is a large number to cover on your own. Expect to pay between $35 -$65 per person for semi-formal.

Just a suggestion, the patio/lounge thing or jazz music during dinner won't go well with a small gathering or relatives.

That is why I said 'or any other fastfood joint'. I personally hate McD's with a passion

[edit] i dont think this is the best restaurant in TO but looking at your criteria (ie. view and all that other stuff) i think it fits...

Definitely an amazing place to have after-dinner drinks, but for a meal I havent heard anything about their food.

I know you are looking for classier restaurants, but I always like to suggest the Marchee on Front Street for dinner-dates. Its a great break-the-ice, get-to-know-you environment, and the food & desserts are delicious!

I've never been myself, but my parents have and they say the food is to die for and so is the bill! Really!

My buddies also used to valet there, and Domi and Roberts go to eat there all the time.

The Octagon looks like the Pondarosa from the outside.

I wouldn't be impressed, even if the food came with gold flakes in it.
