its not smart business to close down a booming company.
perhaps when no one goes to guv and the club scene crashes again then it will be time to give it up to IKEA or some developer.

but thats prolly the best guv rumour ive heard
I know the guy who started the last rumour - he laughed and laughed at how easy it was

LoL Ikea buying guv'... No they didn't nor would they want to. InterIkea (the parent company) is moving a lot of its business out of North America, not into it.

A rumour that I did hear and that might be true simply by the nature of where I heard it is that the city may be looking to purchase it.

I work for the law firm that acts for "Ikea" & InterIkea.

What a waste of money if the city were to buy it. Meanwhile how often do i hear them bitching about no money and making excuses as to why property taxes are up 3% and business taxes are up 1.5%? Oh yes, everyday.

I was thinking the exact same thing.. it would be just a major waste of money. Unless they turn around and sell the land to a condo developer..

You never know, it's hard to tell... At first I figured they'd build it where Lucid is going to be. There is also the possibility that Guvernment will revert back to the way it was when they used to use it almost exclusively as a concert hall. That would make the MOST sense, having the city own a major commercial entertainment centre... But as far as I know the city has made a serious offer for the property.

Like Film, Guvernment attracts a crowd that Toronto as a whole is trying to eliminate. We want tourism, and with the whole marijuana decriminalization thing coming back into consideration having major drug havens is very bad for US/Canadian relations... We need more clubs like Boa with mad security and seriously controlled substance availability. Otherwise the authorities will only tolerate places like System Soundbar, Film, Guvernment for so long.

Ok, ok, ok...

I'll tell the truth, get this off my chest:

I AM BUYING THE GUVERNMENT...

I am going to turn it into a jungle-gym for pre-pubescent hamsters and squirels.

But don't worry. Armin will still come - but this time to see the little rodents, not to DJ.
