Got to go with NHL...and I like most sports. Simply put the energy of the NHL playoffs is more intense than it seems in other sports. Every goal is a riot, fans turn arenas into the "C of red", the "White Wave", "White out's"...etc. I've yet to see another time (north american) where 99% of the fans present wear the same color garb. On top of that, it's a game that is continually moving, 15 second maximum stopages (minus 3 tv stops), where the flow and advantage can change in an eyeblink. Scoring is down, but the acrobatic saves seem to make up for it. It's a great playoff sport to not only attend, but watch (if you can follow it...i understand it's hard to follow since it's fast), as well as probably the best sport to listen to on the radio...fast pace = intense for the imagination. Just look at the calls made by both the Flames and Ning broadcasters throughout the playoffs...absolutely bonkers.
Now...as for other playoffs out there. All are elevated above their regular season counterparts, but I fail to see the same intensity as with the NHL. NBA has fallen off so much the last 10 years...I can't hardly watch...Games where 60...70...80 points are "a lot"..and it certainly isn't due to defence....terrible shooting percentages and the free throw and mid-range jumpers are only found in history books...where paychecks and status are the forefront of the game today. Give me Bracketology anyday...love March Madness...and the buzzer beaters.
NFL is good in the fact that it's one game and out...but a sport that has 4.5 minutes of actual ball in play time during a 60 minute game...sorry...only good reason for the superbowl is to watch commercials.
Baseball has been good the last couple years...especially since the teams damned to hell for eternity have been making runs...i.e. Cubs and BoSox...Get one of these Nationally loved teams to win, and as long as the world doesn't implode because it happens...people will be ecstatic.
Soccer in North America....not exciting at all. Part of the playoff experience is the fans...a packed arena...going bonkers...MLS just doesn't have that (though I haven't seen the playoffs). Over the pond it's a different story. I personally think that 1-0 wins and 0-0 draws with 10 shots in the vicinity of the goal is pretty boring...not taking away anyones talent...but 50,000 bouncing jumping fans calls for a good time. With out that...MLS just doesn't have that excitement....yet.
That's my opinions...sticking to it.
