What do rents usually run in the Houghton Street area? Is very very expensive more than $1000 pounds a month? Is there a place where apartments are posted online for London? Something similar to Craig's List in the States?

if you want to live within easy walking distance then north of the river you'd be able to get something for £1000 a month that wouls be an okay 1 bedroom apartment. South of the river you could get a very nice place for £1000/month and get an okay place for £650-700 a month.

do you reallyl think that 30 minutes commuting is too long what do you think 99% of central london's workforce do?

REnt in West Central London, the 2nd most desirable place IN THE ENTIRE CITY, is going to be more than you can afford. period. unless you happen to be a millionaire. REnt is not going to be around 1000 a month. In that area, they don't even have shitty bedsits that would fetch that price. All you;re gonna get is nice fully furnished studio apartments for at least 1500-2000 at the cheapest. Fact is, if you want to live in london, you're not going to be living in central...

@ Slinky - Where online could I look for apts that are around $1000 on either side of the river? Also would the prices be much different if I were looking for a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment with a couple of my friends? We would be looking to spend around $1000 pounds each.

@ dj_mdma - I'm not working. I'm a student, and I could have to travel between the apartment and school several times a day. That is the reason that a 1/2 an hour commute is too long. I really don't have much of a choice in the matter. If I have to shell 1500 quid (lol) a month then that is what I'll have to do. I'm hoping that I won't...

Why do you have to go back and forth? Can't you just stay on campus until classes are done with for the day?

also remember that the US/UK exchange rate is rather high for you at the moment so for 1000 pounds, you'll be paying 1700 dollars a month. Why are you coming to live in london? ARe you going to be studying at uni? If that is the case, you should consider student accomodation. Some of the halls are actually quite good, and they might not be walking distance, but you should be able to bus it. Some might be right next to the uni, as is the case with Kings College. Some uni's also own houses and stuff, and offer reduced rent prices. if you can go that option, then you'll only pay 350 pounds a month each

I'm a student too

www.loot.co.uk is ur best best for lettings.

be more difficult to find a 2-3 bedroom apartment but you could find places in Bloomsbury (15minute walk) or Waterloo (10min walk) easily within ur budget. Like dj_mdma said uve got to remember exchange rates and presusmably u'll be at Kings College??? Ring them to find out bout property.
