Im talking about 90% of the clubs in Toronto where all people do is pose in Von Dutch and listen to radio music. |
You would be very hard-pressed to find anyone on this board that frequents the "clubs" you're describing. Simply put, they're fucking awful. Full of Gino's and plastically enhanced barbie-dolls. Contrary to popular believe, but those aren't real clubs. They cater to a specific group of people in TO that has no clue what good music is. If you're opinion of TO clubs is based on these places, then you need to spend more time at real clubs. Like System on Friday nights, or Guv/Boa on Saturday nights... if you have one, jump in a time machine and rewind to 1998 and hang out at Industry for a while or even Turbo. Hit up the docks when a good headliner is spinning and you'll feel like your part of a community of people solely their to have fun.

Cataclysmic said it nice, why do u have to care about posers, elitist, and so on.
Personally i go to the party for couple of reasons, music, ladies, good times, and of course meet some new people and im cool with everybody untill something (or somebody) ticks me off.
Am i a poser???
well i really enjoy the music, almost every time i dance my ass off, i like to interact with people, BUT if it's not my night, if i dont feel the music, if some drugged out fuck bothers me or my friends or my ladyfriends or my sister and her friends of course im not gonna be all smiles and happiness, i'll drink my beer, i'll chill, i'll be checking out the crowd. Is that posing ?? If it is then i dont know what to tell you, i cannot force myself to enjoy if i dont feel like it, and i live 100 km's from TO so i cannot go home that easily cause im almost always with somebody and i dont want to screw up their night.
Do i care about posers?
As long as they dont fuck up my night, then NO, everybody is free to do whatever they want, to go wherever they wanna go.
What is gonna happen to the scene?
Hell, i have no idea, we'll have to wait and see, but im sure that not me, not any of you (unless you have some connections, and can get night in the club for yourself, and then pick the crowd that you like) can do much about it but to stay home, or separate yourself and your friends from the rest of the crowd (and LOTS of people do that, and i dont find it very cool). But, to each his (or hers) own. Bigger clubs, better sound systems - GOOD! And what in the name of God is wrong with plastically enhanced barbie-dolls, they dont do it to make themselfs uglier. And pretty is pretty, natural or not , PRETTY IS PRETTY and there is nothing more beautifull in the world than a beautifull woman (ok, there is - beautifull woman who can dance).
But that's just me.
p.s. the BEST crowd and the BEST vibe is in the BREAKS rooms and in my opinion there should be a big-ass club playing only breaks (if there is one please let me know)

Yeah but the same people that go to those places that we don't consider real clubs also frequent Guv or other parties of that type because it's the "cool" thing to do. I felt like that at Tiesto at the Docks. Sure people were having fun and that's all well and good but it felt contrived, it took away from the experience I was having slightly. Possibly because of how those certain types of people party? I dunno, I just hung out with TAs and some friends and had a fun time but it never blew me away or anything. Parties that did?
Labour of Love 2002, PvD 01 (both times), PvD 02, Ultraspin 1, Viva 1 year etc. I dunno, maybe I've just become jaded? Meh.

Again, my problem isnt with the clubs themselves or the music. (except that good clubs in Toronto are less and less) And YES i used to LOVE toronto back in 1998 when it came to parties and clubs. But today you have basically 2 options per night if you are lucky. Guv, System or Boa with the odd small small venue. These clubs are great but when all u have are a few options per night, something is dead wrong. Plus, tell me a good place to go on a Friday unless System happens to bring in the right dj? Answer: NOT MUCH!
Also, ask anyone. People here are known for being conservative and stuck up. Especially the women. Im not saying ALL women here are this way but MOST (more than whats normal) are.
