You are all missing my point..

Im not saying "TORONTO SUCKS"

Im saying it used to be much better and could be better again....

We still have some very good venues and local talent.... What im lamenting about is that its in serious decline. We need new partiers in the scene to give it a revitilization.

Also we need (god forbid) RADIO PLAY

Ask any local dj who has been around since the beginning and they will tell you that one of the biggest problems in Toronto now is that radio does not play club music. Radio play is a good thing if they concentrate only on electronic. The problem with Z103 for example is that they play 1 cheesy dance song among 20 other crappy rnb and pop songs and then fluff it up with annoying announcers.

Ill admit it.... 14 years ago it was RADIO that first gave me a taste for house music and techno (breakbeat) thanks to Chris sheppard (before he went cheesy) and Matt C and Mark Oliver on CFNY 102.1... Later on Doctor Trance as well as the creation of Energy 108 just added fuel to that fire.

Time will tell if this becomes clubland in the US>

The only club that I've seen pull an event like that off is 1015 Folsom in SF since they have like 5 different rooms. And they have had top talent in at least 3 of those 5 rooms. However, there's really no place as big as the Guv/KH connection. Its just fucking huge. Most good clubbing venues only have the 1 main room and a few smaller rooms that can't support a big name dj.

So they can sell alcohol between 1 and 3? Before the majority of the crowd shows up? That might be asking a lot from them. One can only expect so much from the club. (They do put on one hell of a party)

This is a rather dumb analogy. Do you have any idea the number of people that go to Creamfields who aren't even English? Better yet, Miami has Ultra, but what percentage of the people are actually from Miami? A small percentage. Just about any city is capable of pulling off a party of that size if they promote it well enough and bring in enough talent. The fact of the matter is that parties of that size bring in tons and tons of people from all across the world. Do you think if Creamfields only allowed Liverpool residents then it would have a chance of surviving?

Moreover, the main reason why Miami can pull off Ultra is because all the dj's are already in Miami for the wmc, so they don't have to pay for travel expenses. It costs considerably less to fly in the dj's for Creamfields since the majority of the dj's playing already live in Europe. And anybody whose lived in Europe can tell you that its dirt cheap to fly to other countries that are also in Europe.

Also, Boa has no use for a liquor license. The place doesn't pick up until after last call has been announced. For example, Arc in NY never had a liquor license and they did just fine.

Hard to say... I stopped going to massive's back in 2001 since I think they're grossly overrated and do nothing but hurt the local club scene.

For all I know, TO has thrown a number of 10000+ events in the last couple of years which would easily qualify as large parties... but you'll have to ask someone whose been around TO over the last couple of years. If they haven't, then my first guess is that the promoters don't want to take the heat from the local police and municipal government. Unfortunately, TO is not like MTL when it comes to the city not giving a fuck about the type of parties that get thrown.

And for what its worth, large parties can never compare to intimate clubs, so using this as an indicator of a top international club city doesn't make sense. LA is a prime example. They throw a few 30000+ massive parties every year with good talent but at least half of the people their are fucking clueless. In my opinion, massive's have done more to kill the scene than any other single factor.

You hit the nail on the head about Toronto. The media here and the cops are idiots when it comes to parties. Thats what pretty much single handedly destroyed most of what we had in the 90s.

So now you can understand why im a bit bummed about whats going on here.

As for massives.... I LOVE THEM! There are good and bad points to both large and small events. A good mix of both is a good thing.

I'm not a huge fan of the massives, I love the scene to much. The socializing, the music, the plain fun and energy. With 10000+ people you can never really know what's going on!
