1 YR ANNIVERSARY EVENT!
Thanks to all those crazy people who came out to our 1 year anniversary event in the main room of System! You guys really showed System what we're all about!
I'm so speechless and have no clue where to start this review. It was a nerve racking week for Alex, Emery and I. Couldn¡¦t stop thinking about how the turn out will be for this event. Just like last year with the planning of Invasion 001, but 10X worse, b/c it's the main room this time around. Both events I had a lot on the line, but it¡¦s was worth the risk for TOTA.
(Personal log, skip it if you want; this explains the zombie/drunken look I had on Friday)
Few months ago Emery, Deep Groove, Ryan Parks and I have been thinking about this event for a while now and the planning and organization to some time. We wanted to try something very special for you all you guys for the 1 year Anniversary, something different and something a little bit bigger then what we had in the VIP room and Front room. So we approach this idea to the managers of System and he pointed out some real problems with this event. Such as, the first long weekend of the summer! (Example: people will be out of town) So we thought about it for a month and confirmed the green flag. If we didn¡¦t hit a certain number, we will never get the chance to use the main room. It was do or die for us. As Emery said, "Come celebrate Interference's final party!" It was so hard to pick this line up; so many good DJs have spun for us in the past and such little time to work with. (I hope you guys like the line up though and understand what he had to do) I've waited so long to organize a VS battle event and this was the time to do it. Alex from Deep Groove suggested we should hook up 4 Turntables, 2 mixer and 2 CDJs for the setup and shortly after speaking to the 2 sound guys, it was confirmed! (Danja!)
Finaly, the day of the event arrived and sometime in that afternoon, I got a call from the Alex saying the managers of System and some very important people are requesting Deko-ze to be added to the line up. We had up to one hour to figure something out. Emery and I were so stressed and under pressure at this point. "How are going to fit him in? The time slots are rammed jammed, as it is!" Then the lights hit me, cut some sets down and get an extension to keep the club opened a bit longer. We got the confirmation and things were cool for now. I got to the clubb at 9pm with Ryan Parks, to setup and to meet up with StgFoo. Everything was ready and the setup time didn't take too long. Slowly all the DJs arrived to test the sound system and to play around with the DJ setup.
10:30pm rolls around and I was checking the amount of people in the front room. Now at this point of the night, the hardcore pressure and stress started for me. The front room didn't seem to be packed enough for the main room yet. At 11:00pm, the doors open and the main room. Suddenly I see all the people rush to main room and I saw how empty it was, "OMG I"m fucked!" Through out the night, slowly the place was getting busier and when 12:00am hit, I was felt this is it and we're done for. There were a lot of people but, still not enough to hit our target. I found out a few minutes later that the line up was pretty long and wide, I heard it was wrapped around the front doors of Tonic at one point.
Later on the night, while Deep Groove and Vagrant were on the decks the club was filled up nicely. From this point I was feeling a bit better and the stress wasn¡¦t so crazy anymore. I looked at Emery and said¡¨ I guess it turned out ok¡¨ and he said "there's still huge line to get in" Once Deko-ze came on, pretty much everyone was inside and things we¡¦re cool now for me. Thank goodness for the Karma Gods!
(This kinda gets bhatti here ... so pls bare with me pls)
I was in the front room when Jon Tremblay and El Duren were just switching over and I noticed the whole front room was rammed jammed with everyone! Emery told me he wanted to film some girls and we went to the middle of the room. Now this was beyond fucked up here ... all these TAs were surrounding, starring and smiling at me for some strange reason. "Ok, this must be the part where they going to give me some kind of Anniversary beat down!" Trust me, if you were in my shoes, you would have felt the paranoia I was going through. Suddenly Emery hands over this card to me with all these people signing shit all over it. "Oh shit, what the hell is this?" Then I glanced through it and it was the coolest card I¡¦ve ever gotten in my life, with the most thoughtful and meaning full words from everyone. I was in total shock and happiness rushed through me. Then suddenly people were covering my eyes for some fucked up reason, and then a box was handed to me ... Jesus I couldn't believe what was in my hand. I almost cried, for fuck sakes! Then everyone tells me to open it! My god, that deck was the slickest shit I've seen. (Thank you so much you crazy ppl! You really didn't have to do this at all! Just your support when one of our DJs is spinning, it's more then enough happiness for me! THANK YOU!)
At this point, I went to the office to see if they were happy with the turn out. Sat down and the big smile and the good news came from the managers! They were really happy with everything; of course this made me jump up and down like a mad man! We are allowed to the return to the main room!
