Did you even bother to think before posting this? The "hurricane" in the movie was not your typical hurricane, instead of being created using warm air/water it was created using cold air. Who's to argue exactly what will/could happen? It's all just a theory right now anyway. We don't exactly have a written history on what happened during the last ice age.
The comment about the President giving a speech on the Weather Channel is pretty funny too. Remember 9/11? Almost every station had a broadcast of any government speech given that day. It's very possible that if a weather-related disaster were to strike the US that the Weather Channel would air the speech also. |
Did you ever think of my qualifications? Think of this. What does cold air do. What does warm air do? Cold air sinks. Warm air "gasp" rises.... How can sinking air rise to create cloud formations? Answer me that.
And yes, all is theory but having a 'tropical cyclone' of that magnitude is scientifically impossible. Having one (theoretically) the size of the North America's would feed off of any available potential energy and such the atmopshere dry, thereby limiting the propagation of any other storm system......
IE Thermodynamic laws:
The first law of thermodynamics is a consequence of conservation of energy and requires that a system may exchange energy with the surroundings strictly by heat flow or work.
The second law of thermodynamics prohibits the construction of a perpetual motion machine "of the second kind." There are two usual statements of this law. Kelvin's formulation states that it is impossible for a system operating in a cycle and in contact with one thermal reservoir to perform positive work in the surroundings. Clausius's formulation states that it is impossible for a system operating in a cycle to produce positive heat flow from a colder body to a hotter body.
The third law of thermodynamics states that as temperature goes to 0, the entropy approaches a constant. Furthermore, it guarantees that the entropy of a pure, perfectly crystalline substance is 0 if the absolute temperature is 0.
And my last and final rant. The weather channel is a joke. 30% of their staff have actual Bachelor degree's in Meteorology. The other 70% obtained a 'degree' from Mississippi state. (I learned this fact from Melissa Barington who is an NIU graduate and employee of the weather channel) They dummy down the weather... on the order of making it broadcast worthy. The do not have to take any Math, Calculus or Differential Equations. They do not have to take Physics or Thermodynamics. They do not have to learn any computer programming. They learn what I learned in my 100 level class, freshman year....the pure basics. And they walk out acting like they are know it alls.
TeKnoHe@d2025, I dont mean to dog you, but what I say is not smoke being blown up your ass. I am (as of May 8th) graduate with a B.S. in Meteorology. I've decided to skip working off the bat and continue schooling. I am going to be attending Colorado State Univeristy to undertake a M.S. in climatology. So I know a thing or two about this subject.

Very informative posts. I think we all know that the movie grossly exaggerates the time-frame, nature and effects of climate change.....it was never intended to be scientifically sound.
Lets face it, all the massive disasters and special effects are big and exciting and good to watch (for most of us anyway), and it is a movie, so they have created a fictional story BUT it is based on an element of truth. The element of truth is that global warming is occurring, it is heating up the atmosphere, and humans are contrubuting to global warming through the release of greenhouse gases. The message behind the film is a warning about the dangers of global warming.
I will be going to see this soon, just because i love a big, special-effects filled action movie, and it seems like quite an entertaining film. Not a "good" film as such, but an entertaining film nevertheless.
I will probably wait till i see Troy first though.
