I'm not heartbroken that Darren Tate is giving up producing under the Jurgen Vries moniker. After all he has done some splendid stuff under his own name and other guises. It's not like he is completely bowing out of producing trance. The tracklisting for 'Trance Revolution' looks pretty good (not too commercial) so I think I'm going to get it.

Will be interesting to see how he refocuses, whether he can produce something as good as Let the Light Shine In again...

What about Darren Tate vs. Mike Koglin - Now Is The Time... or Darren Tate & Mike Koglin Present Cota - Waiting? Those were both mint tunes... as was his remix of Blue Amazon's No Other Love...

I liked Jurgen Vries actually... I liked the use of Church's vocals in The Opera Song... but that's me.

That's me as well. I think that her vocals suited the tune very nicely. I was a little disappointed with 'Take my hand' but the previous three tracks were great IMO. KOTA - Waiting is a very cool track. I heard the dub first, but now prefer the vocal version.

alot of you guys been bashing asot and stuff like that. why is it weak-minded crap? and why is it dragging down trance? unless if you've ever produced a track even nearly as good as something released on asot (torontotrance) then you really don't have a right to talk. it doesn't take 10 minutes to make these singles. many of the releases have not been amazing, but you can't expect to love every track that a label releases. you honestly have to look at the production quality of these tracks. its much more difficult to produce a quality track once your the one actually sitting there and coming up with something new.

I really didn't see much difference between his vocal tracks as JV and most epic uplifting trance... except it sold more. And The Theme was banging- JamX & De Leone's remix was one of the best tracks of 2002.

No, I don't agree that one has to be at a professional standard with trance mixing and mastering to have an opinion about what is good and what is bad. Whether intentional or not you seem to be illustrating the point that some people are more concerned about the technical aspects of producing trance than with the actual music they are writing. I think that the commercial stuff that people don't get on with is disliked more because of the basic melodies, cheesy lyrics and boring structures than because of the quality of the production. It will take a certain amount of time to make any track but I can guess that the time spent on the commercial tripe isn't as much as on something of higher quality. As far as your comments about it being hard to come up with something new - that might be a great reason, but still doesn't alter the fact that the music is well below par. The listeners don't care how hard it is for the producer to think up new ideas all they care about is whether a tune sounds good or not.

I thought both the theme and the wilderness were nice tracks, he used a lot of original and unique sounds.

But it was his weakest alias imo.

yea, but a lot of people (me included) enjoy many (not all) of the asot releases and we think it sounds good. i've heard tons of people bash on envio. sure, he doesn't exactly bring something brand new to the table, but his melodies are amazing. also, i think asot helped many artists break through, for ex. envio, filo & peri, outback, etc. i personally do not think they're productions are well under par. also a few lange productions under firewall were also released under asot. they have produced some quality tracks, whether u believe it or not.

I was never arguing that all commercial music is rubbish or that all those who listen to it are idiots. I like some commercial music myself and I was only referring to the commercial material that I don't like to make my point. I was arguing against your views about whether or not someone who isn't a pro has the right to critisise pro music and the reasons why people critisise some commercial music. As far as me believing you is concerned. I don't think belief enters into it. You say that a selection of artists have produced quality tracks. But that is just your opinion, it's not fact.
