the match was great. i really enjoyed it. and i must say that it was a pretty equal match. both teams had lots of chances.
and those whiners who blame the referee are jerks who cant accept a defeat.
hats of too mr Zidane. What a spectacular goal he made on that free kick.

I read in the newspaper that an expert on english soccer was asked why the englishmen always looses this kind of tournaments. He answered "englishmen are too focused on brittish soccer. they have no clue how other teams are playing. their lack of respect for other style of soccers and arrogance is the reason why they loose"

i think he was pretty right :P
funny thing to see how the brittish newspapers first salute their players and calls them "GODS" and the next day they say "booooo"

fuck brittish press

The rules of football dictate that if you foul the last player on goal you automatically recieve a red card.

England were rightly awarded a penalty after 72 minutes (which Beckham missed) for this horrible challenge, but France were allowed to keep 11 men on the field. France scored 2 goals in the last 2 minutes to win 2-1 against England.

I don't care who played better or who "deserved" to win (certainly it wasn't France, whatever way you look at it), but the referee has directly influenced the result and has probably cost England their chances of winning group B. I can imagine this referee is very popular in France right now.

You may call me bitter. Indeed I am. What happened today was an injustice, but it is not over yet.

Come on England.

the phrase clutching at straws comes to mind

The English media do hype their team up too much, but I think many foreigners react to this by underrating England. I think yesterday's game shows a lot of the hype was justified because it was a solid performance.

It's not about something subjective like being harsh, I'm simply stating fact: no major tournament wins or finals birth since 1986, or even before then right down to 1966 I think - have they ever even won the european cup?

You can argue that they were "noble in defeat", that they "earned respect from their apponents", that they "deserved to win", that they were "defeated by the eventual winners" all you want, but, I gotta say, I'm a little tired of that. Just win the damn tournament already, or at least get in a final. They've got the players with the abilities and talent to win so they should just go do it ffs!

u really think so? maybe you should watch football outside the UK for once and see how far behind the UK still is considering tactics etc. it still is kick and rush football what the UK plays...
according to most english peeps Rooney is a talent. he can only run hard, same with that midget called Owen, there's absolutely no skill in them. hoping they get a ball where they can outrun their opponents. they bring nothing...

I agree that it wasnt intentional, but he did have his arms out. From what I've seen refs usually call it whether its intentional or not - its the rules. Don't you remember the last eurocup? Thats how france got by portugal if I recall correctly.

The game isn't finished until the final whistle. That's a basic rule in football mates.

You need a lot of moral strength to be able to score twice in 3mn during the extra time. Really. BTW I don't remember Silvestre playing any rule in Zidane's two goals, and be sure that with or without him, we would have attacked again and again, so the result would have been the same.

Maybe we are arrogant but that's a strength, coz we know that if we lose we will have to face everybody's critics and insults.

Yes, I think so, simply because they make it into the finals regularly, and mostly advance to the knockout stages. They're no easy beats. You'd think somewhere along the line they'd get at least into a final.

Hmm, wonder why Australia weren't in the tournament...

Well, at least we can say Scotland are undefeated in Euro 2004.

losing is hard to accept when it comes like that, it's life, and any fan of any country would be gutted when it happens in that manner, however I think had the game ended in the 90th minute, that we wouldn't have the arrogance in some cases (mainly from people like taha who aren't even french but just want to cause shit) and those people are just jealous and losers, mosh also is like that, end of the day england were unlucky but not hard done by.

oh and taha - hooliganism was in my town, 30 arrests and one guy glassed in his face in a 100 person riot in the pub round the corner from my house (wasn't there)

French = arrogant, cocky fucks who can't admit that they because of good fortune and NOT by outplaying their opponents. No wonder everybody hates the French.
