How can you ever truely know yourself, if you've never been in a fight?
| quote: | | Do you have any idea what having a criminal conviction does to someone? For me - having someone paying the rest of their life working nothing jobs, struggling to get by is much more of a penance that me breaking his neck. Physical wounds heal reasonably quickly - a life of hell, paying for your crime is much, much worse. |
I feel sorry for your mother RJ.
Some of the greatest and most influential people have gone to jail for some part of their life, and it didnt ruin them.
Fighting is not always the end of all things to happen, it is not degrading any moral or social fabric that we, as intellectual animals, are holding on to. A good ol' fashion fist fight is not gonna ruin your life, especially if its to defend your mother from some assailant.

that's what im trying to say guys, fuck i wish that there was no violence in this world but it aint like that.

| quote: | | Translation: I am getting to old to fight and I am going soft in my old age. :P |
I'm going to say you are joking (right?) because otherwise you plainly display your dim-wittedness (too many punches to the brain perhaps?)
I'm TOTALLY with RJ on this one. I grew up in Northern Ontario where all we did was drink beer, play hockey and fight.....I've been in a few good ones myself. I think everyone here can agree that in certain extreme situations, one may have no choice or find that they've lost control of their temper but the point RJ is making is that it should always be one's personal goal, as they mature and grow, to work on channelling and controlling that energy for more positive means of resolution and vastly minimizing the times when violence arises.
An interesting side issue also involved is the lack of RESPECT and HONOUR....one can no longer expect fair fights these days. When I grew up it was straight up, one on one, no weapons, no jump-ins, and the combatants had respect for eachother even if they hated each other. I even remember fights where, when the one person was clearly losing, that person was helped up and dusted off by the winner, the conflict addressed and often settled with no further annomosity or desire to "kill" eachother. Today, sadly the rules have changed by cowards with weapons or gangs who claim toughness out of dishonourable means. Now people get shot becuase someone "dissed" someone else? And we say we are evolving? HA!!!
