Because usually hardcore psy-trancers are like oil: they don't mix with anything else. They have 7 weeks long parties just playing psy-trance, and you hardly see (here) psy-trance being played in a place where other genres will be played as well. It's the strongest elitism I know of in electronic music. Even techno heads like house music every now and then, for example. That's true, at least, for Brazil.

Besides, once you get to know trancecore, you realise psy-trance often tries too hard to be something it's not.

I live in an area where finding Trance / Prog / Breaks shows takes a significant drive, and if someone doesn't recommend an artist or song to me on these forums, then I'm not going to know about it. This factor is born out by the number of people who talk above about their countries having buregoning psy scenes, it's about information and access.

The other, smaller, but present factor is closed-mindedness. The same kind of people who denigrate rap fans for allowing Trance to be eclipsed are often the first to say that prog is crap, or that IDM is shite, or that any style which steps very far outside their tightly defined notion of 'good' music isn't worth listening to.

Fortunately, there are also a lot of very open minded TA's who are willing to give anything a go, but in any 'underground' scene there are people who are so into their own little niche that they feel a compulsive need to slag on everything else. Sad, but inevitable, and tolerable if one at least expects it, which I do at this point....

Very well put, and it's true as well

A question not directly related to this topic, what genre do "Kada Sarva" belong to? I have listened to their Cold Lake EP and I love it

What CortexBomb said is right on.

I listen to a ton of psy as nothing else can touch it IMO. The thing is, every psy artist is so unique and the sound of one psy artist will vary tremendously compared to the next one. Because of this, I think there is a ton of shitty psy out there. Unfortunately, the average joe that doesn't know much about psy will come upon some of this shit and write psy off right then and there. In my experience, you need to dig to find the good shit. Just take a look at the volume of psy that comes out weekly by visiting psyshop.com or saikosounds.com. It is quite astounding.

Here are some recommendations which I think are worthy of a listen IMO:

Anything by Astrix or Bamboo Forrest. My favorite tracks at the moment by these 2 are:

Astrix - Junosis
Bamboo Forrest - Osiris

Also check out Astrix's album Eye to Eye from 2002. Its my alltime favorite and I've converted so many friends into the psy camp with this very album.

Some other albumbs that are kicking my ass lately:

Suria - Logical Evolution
Space Monkey - Psychotic Episode

I spin out frequently and I mainly spin trance but I do own quite a bit of psy on vinyl, mostly off the TipWorld label that I make a point of throwing into my set.

And finally, my favorite psy track of alltime and one that I ALWAYS spin out towards the end of my set:

Astrix & Delirious - Day Dream

The breakdown at the end of this track blows my mind. The reaction I see from people in the crowd who are virgins to psy when I play this track is amazing.

In closing for those who don't know where to even begin with finding any of these tracks or artists, get on Soulseek and join the Psytrance channel. You will be able to find any of the above mentioned tracks and tons of other good psy quickly and easily. Give psy another chance!

All of a sudden, two ideas clashed in my head... I wonder if there are psy remixes of the Gradius music?

Oldschool goa-trance is really good. But I dont like most of the stuff coming out nowadays, partly because of the annoying basslines.

1200 mics is pretty nice though, I really like their latest album.
