having not played this before im lacking tactical knowledge

is it better to have a formation with more midfielders and strikers i.e. 3-4-3 or even 2-5-3
or are the defenders worth as many points, therefore just stick with a 4-4-2

????

I was shit at it last year so I probably shouldn't be giving advice ( ) but they've tried to design it so that all positions score equally, so technically it doesn't matter what formation you play.

Basically you want to be playing your best 11 every week whatever the formation, although you might want to change it according to the fixture list. For example you might normally have someone like Hitzlsperger on the bench but if Villa are playing Norwich you might fancy his chances of getting a goal or an assist, wheras one of your regular defenders might be up against Chelsea that week so you'd swap them.

I noticed the most successful teams last year were the ones who used their captain wisely. I think it's a good idea to have at least one very big name player like Ruud van Nistelrooy, Henry or Pires, someone who you are confident will get goals or assists almost every week. The teams that finished at the top of the table were teams who had Henry as captain when he scored a hat-trick or whatever. This year my big name players are Lampard, Pires and Drogba, and I'll rotate the captaincy based on who is in form or who has the weakest opposition that week.

Don't forget to use your transfers. You get one free transfer every gameweek but every transfer after that will cost you 4 points.
