Considering that not even that many people vote(I think Tiesto got like 60,000 votes), it's very possible if everybody who went to Guv this year votes, Mark Oliver will be in top 100.

It would be a fun little experiment to build a spoofing system that could put some nobody on the map (like top 100 at least). I can't see it being that hard either.

I would like to see Ferry and Armin #1 & #2... Their sets have been the most enjoyable to me this year so far. They both work hard, have an obvious passion for what they do.

I wouldnt be surprised if Tiesto won again.. It is a popularity contest, and because he tours so much, and goes to so many places, he's still prolly the favourite to win. however his djing this year, wasnt all that liek when i saw him the year b4. Just Be was a nice album tho.

PVD, hasnt really impressed me this year.. in fact, i used to love him, but im just not feelin his style much anymore. Djing or productions. Same goes for sasha..

So yeah, id liek to see ferry & armin at the top, i could care less about the rest. I would actually like to see Tiesto & PVD drop in the rankings... Hopefully thatll spark something "better" out of them.

While I think you're being a little harsh on our man, Mark O. I do think you have a point. I've heard Mark Oliver a bunch of times, and he's a solid DJ. But it's almost as if he doesn't have a musical identity. When it comes to singling out the worlds best DJ's, i think the primary factor has to be in the uniqueness of the sound they play. Almost all the top DJ's have pushed their signature sound and others have immitated or followed them. Sorry to say this, but Mark Oliver has always seemed a good follower to me. Ask him to play Trance, house or Techno and he can do a great job. But there's no way you could tell just by hearing his set that it was Mark Oliver spinning. He's too much of a generic DJ to be recognized anywhere outside Canada -- and while that's not such a bad thing -- considering he has a huge following here. It has to be considered when you seriously talk about Mark Oliver as Canada's finest.

That honor in my opinion goes to Max Graham. He has his signtature style both in productions as wel as DJ'ing...anyone who has followed his career will atest to it.

Now, regarding #1. It's about frigging time the top 5 got shuffled outta there. I'm sick of seeing Armin and Tiesto ontop of great technical DJ's like Digweed and Anthony Pappa. Chances are it won't happen -- and in a way that's great. A #1 ranking in DJ Mag at this point would be a clear sign of only one thing -- commericalization of the type of music they spin.

Hm.. You do remember that both Sasha and Digweed have been ranked #1 in that same "contest" ?

I know. It meant nothing when they were ranked #1 either. People who recognize that Sasha and Digweed are pioneers in the EDM scene did so long before DJ Mag came out with their top 100 list. You do know it's just a ploy to get people to buy a magazine don't you ? Seriously, you think anyone who isn't voted #1 crys about it the day after the results come out ? The rankings mean...fuck...all. ( at least in terms of individual skill or overall presence in the EDM scene )

Edit::... noticed i said top 5 should be shuffled out -- so that includes sasha and digweed probably as well.

Personally - I think the top100 plays an important role in determining where listeners tastes are going and how things are evolving.

I think it is a vital part of the EDM scene and I encourage everybody to vote.

Agreed! And I don't mean to repeat what I said, but try this little exercise and anybody will see what I mean:

If anybody is looking at a way to summarize listener trends in EDM - the top 10 every year will clearly convey such information.

The (apparent) death of trance and the rise of prog right around the turn of the century proves this case-and-point.
