You're not allowed in the park between dusk and 6:00 am. LOL! Good thing my grandpa doesn't live in Oakville because he likes to go for a walk at sunrise in the summer. I think its time our society scrapped the safety first policy and realized that each person should be responsible for themselves. Getting hit by the odd stray soccer ball is more than worth it for some basic freedoms. Tolerance people!

Hahahaha, I love these little "factoids" that go around. If someone isn't telling me that a duck's quack doesn't echo, they're listing "crazy" laws from all places of the world.

Newsflash, people: most if not all of these laws either never existed or haven't been in the books for centuries. Snopes even did a piece on some myths from Arizona, although what they say is equally true of many other places like Toronto and New York.

Sorry to rail on you Andrea but I've gotta use you as an example: whenever you get a mass e-mail or a link to a web site with a huge collection of totally disconnected "factoids" or "looney laws" or other things that would sound downright goofy if they were actually true - you can rest assured that the vast majority of them, or possibly all of them, are false. If they were real, don't you think that the collection would include the relevent Acts and Sections? And yet they almost NEVER do.

Having said that, banning sports from a public park isn't a "looney law", it's just a very annoying one. As is often the case with laws, there are sometimes well-meaning but archaic laws that made sense at the time but don't anymore. Trouble is that nobody in the government cares enough to clean out the books when the laws have become pointless.

Actually many of those silly laws andrea posted are in fact enforced and relevant to today's society such as the encripted tv one, and the yellow margerine one, and the snow removal one.

Well of course you picked out two relevant ones out of the bunch (not sure about that yellow margarine one...). I didn't say all of them were crap, it wouldn't surprise me if the craps law really exists too (gambling isn't permitted in a lot of places!). Although technically, the satellite "law" is not a law but a regulation put down by the CRTC when they were pressured by Bell to make their ExpressVu an "exclusive" product in Canada. Snow removal laws are about liability.

There are some normal-looking laws in there but I'd be willing to bet they they are actually regulations by private institutions and not government laws.

But I think you'd be hard-pressed to find where in the books it's illegal to water your lawn while it's raining or where it says you have to give ex-convicts a horse and a handgun. It's a common tactic, Jay - intersperse the bullshit with a few facts that people know are true, and it makes the entire set of them look a bit more credible.

But hey, if you think I'm shitting you, go ahead and find the acts and sections where these are instituted. I will be happy to admit how wrong I am if you can find sources for more than 1/3 of those.
