you can do that all you want...but at least hockey and soccer are exciting to watch. I understand you're cheering for your country, but the Americans are so cocky and arrogant because they play in the NBA that it's just great to see them lose. Besides, basketball was invented by a Canadian...but it still sucks.

Nobody really gives a shit about basketball...sure they have cult followings in various countries, but proper football will always take precedent in any country except the USA.

Great effort against Lithuania today though...great stuff.

No offense meant, but how is it that you guys get your own team in the Olympics? I think American Samoa's got their own team as well.

Because PR and American Samoa are non-incorporated territories of the US, which means that we belong to but are not a part of the US federal system (no federal taxes, no federal vote or representation). And also, the IOC is a private NGO, so they decide who gets to play. I think national self-government is good enough.

Of course, PR could never play in the Olympics if it became a state. But only because the US would never allow it, there's no rule against this in IOC regulations.

PR has the same right to have a national team as Taiwan, Iraq and all the British commonwealths whose sovereignity could be questioned.

To say the least, I'm not disappointed at all with the USA team this year, but that's because I already had very low excpectations...now if it were a team with REAL team players (Kobe Bryant, Shaq, McGrady, Garnett), then I would excpect for them to be taking Gold with a bit of a battle. Realize though that it wasn't the coaches option to not bring along these players, he offered them the chance yet they refused on their OWN. Half the people on these boards seem to be neglecting that fact (even though it doesn't really matter much now)....

Anyways, international play is really starting to develop, and can go nowhere but up in the future. As much as us Americans hate to admit it (much like the rest of the world hates admitting how well our soccer, or 'futbol', team is coming along), foreign basketball is pretty damn impressive.

Nonetheless, go USA!

Why didn't they want to play in Team USA?

They had better things to do or something? Some people live their lives to play for their country, i can't understand why they would turn down the offer.

Anyway if USA had their full potential they would be unbeatable, no question about that.

It belongs in a different thread but i just can not stay quiet on this one. Hockey and soccer are exciting for YOU to watch, personally I think its boring, scoreless crap but you don't see people who like basketball coming into the 100 soccer threads in this forum bashing soccer. If you don't like basketball fine, then just keep your opinion to yourself and let us have a discussion on basketball. God how many times do we need foreigners being arrogant and talking trash about our sports and blabbing on and on about how great soccer is. I tried to watch the Iraqi soccer game the other day and I couldn't watch 10 minutes of it, scoreless noncontrol bores me to death, sorry.

I agree with you completely on that, having the chance (whether its their second or third time) to represent your country in the olympics is a high honor, no matter what the sport.

Yet Kobe has his trial to concentrate on, and I understand completely about his decision to stay home and focus on whether hell be getting the chance to even play basketball again (IF they do find him guilty). But for the other players, perhaps theyre having family problems, injuries, or are just plain ignorant and think they're too 'important to play in these games.' Sadly there are players like that and that just makes our country look all the less respectful and competitive.
