its absolutely false...

you can buy a 316 from this year... or a 320, 325, 330... the first is the series ID (serie 3) and the two lasts numbers are a motor characteristics, cylindre (316 -> 1,6 (1600cm3) L 325 -> 2,5 (2500cm3) L and 750 - serie 7, 5L (5000cm3))

my parents have a 750iL, and before a 540 (4 Liter (4000cm3))

That`s why the Autobahn in Germany simply ROCKS!!

BTW: If you say that a BMW doesn`t have anything exclusive and then recommend a Japanese car.....enough said!

Not quite sure about the lapse of logic within this post?

Max speed of 88 km/h? Last time I checked, about 4 hours ago the speed limit was 70 mph (112 km/h)? And in some, albeit desolate areas, 75 mph.

I think you have been brainwashed, by BMW's propaganda and POOR engineering. Germans (VW/Audi/Porsche, BMW, MB) are notorious for the overcomplication of simple engineering principles. The Japanesse autos are often one magnitude of quality better, if not more.

As far as a BMW ever being EXCLUSIVE ... I don't think so. Last year BMW sold over 180,000 units in the US. The ENTIRE production run of the Toyota Supra Twin Turbo (1993-1998) was 6,977. Most people don't even know what a Supra is, NEVER MIND the awesome engineering that went into it. Let's see anyone ATTEMPT to run over 10psi in a stock BMW. Kaboom!

As I stated before the initial poster will probably buy a new BMW because it is the "proper" thing to do. BUT, anyone who knows anything about cars will realize that A LOT more potential, in performance, comfort, and exclusivity, could be had for a lot less money. However, as sad as it seems, most members of the general populous would consider a new 325i as an "outstanding" car.

Sadly,
Roger

This often holds true in foreign markets, but within the last few years, BMW has often not used these designations:

After 1996: the 740i used a 4.4L V8, the 750i used a 5.4L V12, although they did begin production with the 4.0L V8 and the 5.0L V12 respectively.

Just a small note.

Roger

I don't know what all the fuss is about.

You've got $30,000. The choice is clear: get a '78 Datsun and stick in a $29,800 stereo system. What's the problem? Let's start some minor Earthquakes yeah?

Dont get a BMW dear, at 17 you cant afford the social stigma and mental trauma that comes with owning such a car.

Im sorry, but Im going to have to blurt it out and save you later pain. The only people that own BMW's are middle level managers who have had to morgage their firtborn child, utter wankers and doped out housewives.

Listen to Lilith.
The only thing a young person needs is enough horsepower to hurl them at ludicrous speeds down the highway with enough speed to outrun the police, other angry road users and the agility to avoid suburban 4WD owners.
Trust Lilith.
Ive owned a 1994 Toyota Celica GTR which would put most WRX's to shame and a Nissan 300ZXTT that could put down 302hp at the back wheels (assuming the man at the dyno place wasnt lying to me ) Both cars where probably the most fun you can have with your clothes on!
Though, you could get a Supra like the other boy said. They are kind of fun but good ones are hard to find, Ive been looking for one for awile but they are either overpriced or clapped out.

Remember, you dont want to be respected on the road. You want to be feared, and if it isnt turbo or supercharged then your just another road user.

Well this definitly tells me that you never read any car magazines! There will be a 6 series in a couple of years! There will be a 635i, and a 645i! And the M6 will come out later! They are also planning to build a 1 series, 4 series and a X3! I hope that they are also going to build the 8 series again!

Oh and Penguin! Today I drove in the new MINI Cooper! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's just one hell of a car! If I had the money I would wait until next year and I would buy the MINI Cooper S with like 180 HP! That thing is fast! It is totally constructed by BMW so you can trust on it's endurance!

Bmw is making great progress. Too fast for anyone to keep up with.
All the stuff thats been posted isnt a concept. Bmw actually tries these things out and if it works and targets a certain group in society then it'll be out on the streets.
For example, theres a 765iL in the makings for next year. I dont know whos gonna drive such a fat cat but someone mid-aged family executive will have his eyes on that machine next year.

Also, the electrical systems on 2nd and 3rd gen RX-7s are diabolical, they're not nearly as cheap and don't have as much potential as the Mk IV Supras.

Supra is a great, great car-- no doubt about it. I love the MKIV myself.

The 3rd gen RX-7's unreliability issues are the result of poor mechanics. Take a look at www.magnusmotorsports.com, the local shop I go to for my car. They have PLENTY of 3rd gens regularly going to the shop that hit 12's or lower-- all of which have been going to Magnus for years and with yet any reliability issues whatsoever.

The problem is 90% of the people don't realize that the ECU must be retuned with the addition of any small upgrade. The 3rd gen also weighs in at 2700lbs stock, has the best handling characteristics of any widely produced car ever and throws in the good ol' 50/50 weight distribution. And the money issue is thrown aside when the fact is that these cars are created for their aftermarket tuning aspects, which automatically translates into hefty bank accounts required.
