The thread title was "trance tunes, that others call cheesy." Why are people listing stuff by Ian Van Dahl, DJ Sammy and ATB?

(humor)

Yes, like pizzas around the world, they are fun to eat but you won't enjoy all the flavors...

Or, this classic interchange which I have personally witnessed:

Clubber A: "I like 'Castles In The Sky' by Ian Van Dahl, that's some great trance!"

Clubber B: "You n00b! That's not trance! STFU!"

Clubber A: "Oh yeah? What is it then?"

Clubber B: "That's CHEESE and there's a big difference!"

Clubber A: "What's the difference?"

Clubber B: "Cheese is CHEESY and is so commercial and mainstream, it sux0rs!"

Clubber A: "How can I tell if something is cheesy?"

Clubber B: "..." / *insert miscellaneous circular reference here, looping the "discussion" in a more cheesy way than all the trance cliches put together in the world combined*

Someone should do a compilation explicitly titled:

THE BEST CHEESY TRANCE ANTHEMS IN THE WORLD... EVER!

And then we'll have that dealt with via combinatorics.

I do blame them and I credit them at the same time for their meme propagation and strong brand name recognition which has increased awareness of clubbing and EDM. As certain definitions expand, others contract.

I like some their compilations, but really, how many annuals can you have in a year?

Yes, perspective. Sorry to hear about your post.

There are cultural differences. One cool thing about TA is we come from all over the world so we see things in our areas differently.

In Japan, happy and extremely giddy music is not popularly regarded as "cheese". In fact, it's highly prized and such exhuberance in song is a stark juxtaposition to other entertainment they create like the bloody movie, Battle Royale, and hentai.

For evidence of Japan's culture: one can listen to most J-Pop currently charting there, or watch anime. It's a lot of HAPPY! SMILE! HELLO! And of course, they encourage this by pushing forth their Hello Kitty merchandise and cute Domo-Kun plushes. And when someone from the other side of the world watches this, they're like "WTF?!?" But the same sense of wonder is upheld when a Japanese person watches American TV for the first time.

And oh yeah, don't forget David Hasselhoff in Germany.

Reminds me of that Simpsons episode!

The Japanese think the same thing about America!

BTW, your sig reminds me of http://www.engrish.com

There was an episode of Digi Charat I watched once, showing what they think life is like Stateside. OMG it was sooo skewed and funny . . .

rock your body rock can't be cheese, its electro

thats like saying progressive house cheese or techno cheese
its just such an obscure genre that it can't be made for the masses
