Memories of an unforgettable night….
For starters, I’m so glad we came… it had been on again, off again for the last couple of days – finally Dawn just looked at me and growled “WE’RE GOING!!!!” Next thing I know we’re on I-4 Westbound…
Ybor City was a little adventurous for the uninitiated, but full of energy. Definitely a busy hub of night-time activity. The Amphitheater was a constant bombardment of visual and musical bliss. We got in just in time to see a choreographed show with a fire-wand spinner and eater, and dancers that looked like scantily-clad mummies (Egyptian-theme). We were greeted almost immediately by an intriguing girl selling tooter-shooters, and couldn’t resist – so a little GoldSchlager helped to ease the nervousness.
While looking for the bathroom after a three-hour drive, we ran into Arturo. (Does he ever NOT smile?) What a great person! If it hadn’t been for you, we would have never made it. Thank you so much for being an incredible ambassador to the TA culture, and for introducing Dawn and I to so many people that night. Arturo, you are so full of energy, enthusiasm, support, and passion for the music and the scene. You’ve helped me out more than you’ll ever know, and you’ve earned a place in our hearts.
We met some incredible people: Arturo, Harold, Jeff, Hope, Amber, Terry, Ex-DJ and a few others…
Arturo – you already know. Thanks.
Harold – let us know when you’re coming up!
Jeff & Hope – we thought you guys were amazing! Hope to stay in touch!
Amber – you were so full of emotion…
Terry – Great set!!! Amber made me a fan a few weeks ago!
People we saw and wish that wish that we had met….
Suzy Solar and Lil-B – I’ve listened to so much of your music, and have seen you in so many Trance-related areas on the web – it was neat to see your energy and charisma in person – and to see how when you’re not making the music, how much of a fan you are yourselves! We were right in front of you for most of Paul’s set…
Paul and Allison – Dawn had a chance to relay a “Hi” from Laurie in San Diego. Laurie introduced me to your music almost two years ago. Since then, I download your mixes every month (sometimes twice a month ), and make a copy to send to my sister… Paul, I think you give sooooo much to the community, and I know you’ve brought the enjoyment of this style of music to many who would have never otherwise heard it…
Matt – My sister is 11 months younger than me, and we see the world with the same eyes (and hear it with the same ears)… we both love the same music. I think I see that in you and Amber…
Ginger – Your brother got me started down this road…
Anuneventrade – didn’t actually see you – but wish we could have met! Dawn and I love your posts!
The music was GREAT – being our first time out in a long time, we took a long time (and a few Margaritas) to get motivated to move onto the floor. The rotating dance-floor was interesting. Like a merry-go-round, Arturo would come around every few minutes grinning ear to ear, waving us in to dance.
Paul’s set was great – I don’t think I knew any of the tracks, but they were pumping! I was inwardly very emotional during his set. My gaze would pass from Paul on the decks, to Amber behind us, and then to the Angels hanging from the ceiling, and I would remember the deeper meaning behind the night – and imagine the memories of Patrick going through them….
Did anyone notice the three dancers on stage as Paul was playing!?!?!? (This is to help anyone who wasn’t there to visualize the stage..) There were two girls (two of the original Egyptian cast when we first got there) dancing periodically on either side of the stage, Santana in the middle. And they danced great… But there was a third dancer that would come out…holding a camera… he had this new type of dance...and he tried to hype up the crowd… and he scared away the sexy girl dancers… O-M-G
The women were gorgeous!!!! Dawn was stunning – I don’t know how I ever got so lucky! And OMG she can dance! Is there some type of rule that you have to be ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL to be a female TA? Amber, Hope, Allison, Suzy, Dawn and the others that I saw but didn’t get to meet - all HOT!!!– the VIP/TA area was heavily biased with beauty, and when they were on the dance floor … all the guys eyes were on them…
Dawn and I finally got out to the floor during Terry’s set – and it was ALL good. I finally gave in to the music, and just danced. It’s amazing how fast time moves when you’re caught in the music.
We had parked in this little taco shop’s parking lot, around the corner from the Amphitheater. On our way to the car we stopped to get tacos. Grouper tacos at 3am were AMAZING!!! But stopping to eat, we lost our momentum, and decided to shoot for home, rather than navigate Ybor at 3am with all the drunks. Besides, the babysitter had to go to work that morning. Leaving Ybor, EVERY car was pounding rap or gangsta-whatever on the way out. I decided to POUND PaulOakenfold: Creamfields on the way out of town… two 12’s in the trunk helped give us some crazy looks… Dawn thought we were going to get shot!!!
So, from a newbie perspective – it was a great time, and I’m so sorry that we missed the after-party. Especially that we missed Arturo spin. We’ll make it up to you Arturo!!! Everyone was incredibly nice, and there was a great vibe the entire time. I highly encourage anyone that can, to go see Paul play in Tampa, whenever you can – he puts on a great show, and the atmosphere is incredible.

Late reply, as usual I can't be anywhere on time I arrived @ amp around 1pm, found Pat sitting outside trying to get in. Sux to be under 21. Got inside just in time to hear good part of DJ Santanas set, very good stuff. Terrys closing set was kick ass, props for dropping some classic. It was nice to hear trance @ amp, they should do it more often. Afterparty was pretty decent, nice setting crowd could have been bit bigger tho. James kicked my ass in pool. I was chillin most of the time with Sara, who was falling asleep, till Sattelite woke her up that is lol Good seeing every1 again, hopefully I can make PvD on saturday.
