oakenfold went down hilla long time ago every once and a while hell put on an amazing show just so people can stand up for him when other peopel hate on him. but you see h exploited the market and is now laughing his ass off at everyone because of it. honestly tiesto,oakie,pvd,jules,armin all pretty much are horse shit now. every now and then theres an amazing set or something really wonderfull is done by one of them but for the most part it sucks. it sucks becuase they dont bother anymore they dont need to bother anymore as people that dont even know their face will goto a club to see them. do you relise how much of a trend that edm has become do you relise how many people listen to it and say they love it and that they allways go clubbing and have seen tons of names but still no nothing about it. its called trends its called some kids thought they were cool kus they went to a underground party back in 97 and someone thought they were cool kus their friend wenta nd it created a big trend that has now ruined many great things. oakenfold, tiesto, armin, pvd, jules, ferry, theyve all done great things in many ways but lets face it they are washed up. only thing is they arent washed up to the people taht dont live in the trend they are washed up to the people that know a shit. lets face it theres more people that follow trends then that lead. there are very VERY few artists in any genre that can hold an empire for 10years and 5years in still be as good as they were when they first got big. lets face it trends have killed everything, the fact that they can sell millions of rekkords just because of their name, its brillant i tell you froma buiness stand point but terrible from an end user standpoint. ive seen tiesto once in the past 12months and his set was utterly amazing but ill randomly listen toa live set and itll be shit and ill look at tracklists and they will suck. alot of it has tod o with what they wanna do that night, if they are paying attetion or if they are busy doing other shit no matter what it is. face it trendy people dont care about mixing technique or track selection all they care about is bragging to all their freinds how many times theyve seen the dj that everyone in their circle of friends think are cool. for a while one of my friends was dating a fob philipino chick and one day her and him and her sister and sisters friend and a bunch of our friends were going to a comedy club kus we had 15 free tickets, so they come over and were all chillen smoking some bud and opuim and shit and im totally fucked on xanx opuim and some damn fine bud and i get them all to smoke it thinking theyd calm down kus they were being all fobish so they get stoned and fucked and where at one of ym friends house chillen and they come into her room where im with a few otehr friends cutting up some more opuim to smoke and they all come in the room and we were listening to like just some random tracks on a cd and they all start dancing and trying to be all "raved" out and talking about how they wanted glowsticks and yeah it was quite funny and etertaining, but the point is that its a trend and untill people deicde to force good shit into the trend it will remain to be a shittie trend that willl ineveible die except for the small group that it started is. many genres are like this and it happens often.

I don't deny that he's had a huge impact on the scene, but what's at question here is his current DJing ability.

Hank Aaron is probably one of the greatest baseball players to ever exist, and is certainly a legend. But he's old and retired - if he were put on a major league team today, would his past accomplishments excuse him from the fact that he probably couldn't hit a single pitch?

I don't go to see a DJ spin just because to worship his legendary status. I go to see him throw down a wicked set. If he fucks up (especially on the magnitude of 10 fucked mixes in a 80 minute set), then there's really no justifying it.

What makes it worse on Oakie's part is that he has been around a damn long time and has proven that he can spin a lot better than this, so obviously he either just doesn't give a fuck and would rather milk the cash cow with half assed sets, or is seriously going off his rocker. The fact that a DJ (any DJ) is being paid as much as he must get, and is flown across the world every weekend to spin, and produces half assed sets like these is a real smack in the face to all the really great DJs struggling to make it.

i brang the smack dowjn on all the major dj's and producers becuase its now to the point where tis true. you get half assed sets by major djs, shitting mixing shittie track selecton so on. its really not constant shit besides with oakenfold. my big complaint is the quliaty of their track selection, personally i refue to listen to armins asot anymore however if hes in town id pay 30bux to go see him becuase i know he plays good shit and technically is rather good at mixing. however tiesto i wont pay more then 20bux to see and oakie i wont pay to see, pvd and ferry id still pay 30bux to see just because ive not seen them as often as ive seen tiesto. but to be honest theres a whole new breed of djs coming up that are really great djs. so eh its called sucess and time it happens.

From my experiences seeing Van Dyk lately, who used to be IMO the most technically flawless trance dj, he has gone downhill. Not only have I been less pleased with his track selection, but his formerly flawless mixing has been anything but flawless. I have plenty of friends that were with me in July, the last time he played, that will substantiate that claim.

My other complaint is that he plays to many of his own tracks and too many similarly stiled tracks. I wouldn't mind hearing him play his work that is unreleased, but in three times in the last 8 months (2 in Denver, 1 in Miami), I heard "Crush" every time. I like the track and own the vinyl, but it is lame IMO to hear the same track in three sets over 8 months. Maybe if he played "Autumn", which I can't get on vinyl, I would be ok with it. Even then, I might not. I'm not saying he sucks, by any means. He's just not as good as he used to be, IMO. And that goes for both his production and his djing. It all seems more monotonous than it did.

accutally no what got tiesto and ferry big was the itnernet. when north america fianlly got the drift of the trance genre p2p networks were huge and typing in trance would give you tiesto and ferry. also tiestos been around for a long time long long time just not under the tiesto guise same with ferry and kai tracid has been aroudn even longer unles sim mistaken. the only reason oakenfold is as big as he is now is due to his marketing which i must admit was brillant. but for technical spinning they all suck now., not allways to the suck but majority of time its shit.

hrm... i'd actually like to defend pvd here. first of all, playing your own productions is nothing to be criticized about. its your own work of art, your own creation that you can be proud of. heck, once i get my own stuff completed i'll be playing it every set i can. secondly when pvd comes here to nyc and spins a 4-6 hour set, he will always fit in 70-100 tracks. if u do the math thats about 16 tracks for every hour he spins. if u think about it logically, he's not doing the typical armin or tiesto, mixing in and out at the beginnings and ends of the tracks. he's dropping tracks in almost constantly. i rarely ever see him just standing there and waving at the crowd and smiling. trying more difficult mixes etc. will equate to more mistakes. u are definitely correct about him and his track selection tho. imo, he rotates his tracks too slowly. it seems like he has similar tracks for at least half a year. however, i've seen some of his latest tracklistings and i can say its completely different from earlier this year. seems like he's moving sorta harder, darker, techier.
