CDex is mainly a program for extracting Audio-CDs on your Computer and not for recording Live Sets. The Line-In record option is not very good and lacks Gaining and Editing functions. The only good reason for using Cdex is the Lame-Mp3-Encoding Support.

The best recording Software in my opinion is Soundforge too. But never found a good Recording directly into Mp3 Format...any ideas??

ok, I got winrar( but i think its the sony-self extractor that extracts it) and its extracts the torrent but when I go to open the extracted file it tells me - "this operating system does not support this aplication" - so I'm stuck again.

hey was just reading this thread n have been having the same problems. im using a mac though so its not a question of soundcard but when i listen to mixes ive recorded the bass in some areas "cracks". im not overpumping the audio output on my mixer or anything but i suspect that its the program im using to record..its called audio recorder.(lol sounds pretty budget). can you recommend me anything better. id also like to encode my vinyl into .wav. freeware or not..just whatever is good.

Andy- Maybe you should try and download another soundforge program. The soundforge program that I downloaded did not have the problem that you are experiencing.

i was asked about an MP3 encoder, not about MP3 recording...which is why i mentioned CDex, as it is an excellent MP3 ENCODER....i cannot fathom why you would record directly to MP3 before you burned the .wav file as an audio cd, you loose so much sound quality upon encoding to MP3, granted most people won't hear the difference, it might just be better to record it as .wav, burn it to an audio cd, and then encode it to MP3 using whatever encoder you want.

Thanks guys for recommending Cdex to convert my Wav files to MP3's. I downloaded the product and it works great.

Mix Session 007 ( which will be up shortly on http://www.musicv2.com/artist/davepiazza) was converted to MP3 using Cdex.

I have sound forge 5.0 and have just a couple of questions.

1. When I finish recording a mix do I save it as a .wav file?

2. If yes, when I go to play it back it does not sound quite as good as the original sound. Is this where I need to download a .wav to mpeg convertor? I have CDex. I have converted the .wav into a mpeg, but when I try to play it back in RealPlayer nothing is heard, yet it looks like its playing. I just can't hear anything. Other mpeg files play ok, its just these from sound forge that are not.

I'm just trying to understand. Sorry if this has already been answered here.

Save it as a wav file, make sure you are recording at 44 / 16 / Stereo.

Just needed that small little adjustment.

I recorded a 45 mix with those settings. Saved it as wav file and it was 544,xxx kb. Huge. So, I converted it to mpeg which brought it down to 44. This still seems large for someone to download over the net. Is this correct and just the way it is or should I adjust some settings?

MP3s are usually about 1MB per minute so thats about right for a set.

sound forge is more for editing loops and small bits of track by adding effects and what not. not good for recording. another sonic foundry product is acid pro 3 or 4.0 which is much better for recording long tracks. if you want effects it can do that too but i don't know why youd want to do something in the studio that you couldn't do live. to me thats faking it. i like acid because it makes tweaking the audio levels really easy. fad ins fade outs. all really easy. also wavelab is nice although i haven't used it much.
