The current queen could give two shits about us. When was the last time she visited our country and showed us her respect??

Queen Victoria on the other hand had a hand at helping establish our country

And to JAyX1 light show man.. i DO get it.... i just dont see HOW she deserves to be on the bill? And Where did i mention a hockey player???? Does the name TRUDEAU come to mind again when re-reading my previous post?

She was born into that position.. nothing else. There are other people like Trudeau that deserve to be on the bill more than that stupid hag

I cant beleive you guys would support her face on our money.. a symbol of royalty. Why should we respect her??? WHYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?!!!!!!!!!!?!?!?!??!?!!??

It was Elizabeth's FAMILY LINE that paid for the exploratory voyages of this nation. It was her family line that led Britain in defiance against American expansion and during the War of 1812...it was her family line that granted royal charters, initiated royal railway lines, expanded and settled the west, etc. It was for her GRANDFATHER AND GRANDMOTHER that 1 million Canadians (who had way more courage than you will ever have) went to war and over 65,000 sacrificed themselves in WW1 and another 45,000 in WW2.

Sure, of course this was all with the cooperation of the British Parliament. Our past is UNDENIABLY British...and at least one bill should embody that past. It makes sense to put the Queen on that bill to say "hey, this country was once a colony and our early identity was British." Everything you have today connects with the British royal family...think of the language, common law, holidays, etc...it all goes back to the British monarchy.

WHY can't YOU understand how the Queen is a living embodiment of the Canadian past and identity. Who says we have to bow to her? All she ever does these days for Canada is come here on a visit (and generate millions of dollars for the economy in doing so) and have her portrait on our bills to remind us of who WE WERE once upon a time. You might not feel any connection to Britain and the Empire, but that's what we used to be...if you don't like it, eat shit.

Victoria was on our bank notes 100 years ago, as was George V, Edward VIII and George VI in succession. When Elizabeth dies, expect to see either Charles or William on our 20.

And FYI, the Queen was last here only 2 years ago...and she had thousands and thousands of supporters...even Canadians with no ethnic ties to Britain were there. And when John Manley talked about getting rid of the Monarchy and Commonwealth status, he was shelled with criticism. I love Canada, but I've never seen a nation be so willing to throw away our history so wrecklessly. At least the Americans are proud of where they came from, good or bad.

Trudeau?? Here is a man who single handedly created all the problems we face today.

This would be one hell of a lengthy discussion if we got into how the charter of rights, socialized medicine and the multicultural policies, while created with good intentions, are destroying this country.

Agreed. And if it wasn't for the Queen we'd be stuck eating A1 sauce instead of HP.

Think about it.... rotten apple sauce instead of rotten fish sauce..

OK. Throw some points out as to why the Charter of Rights, socialised medicine, and multicultural policies are 'distroying' Canada. I'm not from there, and I'd like to know what you mean here. I believe I can understand if the categories were explained...

PS: IMHO, it's OK for Queen Elizabeth to be on the money even just for the fact that she contributed in some [big] way, shape, or form (no matter how), to the modernising of Canada to what it is today.

This thread seems to be all over the place, but as for the Queen Elizabeth issue, I think this country should embrace its British history. That is the TRUE Canadian culture, with maybe a little bit of French thrown in, and this country was thriving when we recognized that instead of diving into the endless sea of socialism, multiculturalism and anti-capitalism/anti-Americanism that we're in now.

Sure, immigration was a huge part what made our country great, but it was a different kind of immigration. There was once a time when we had freedom and low taxes, even moreso than the USA, and hardworking immigrants would flock here to try and make a better future for themselves. Now in this "cultural mosaic" we live in it's mostly refugees that want to come here and get on welfare.

That critic of the Queen is a bit offensive ... because of her we are not American, and because of her, we are independent. Why does it bother people when Queen Elizabeth appears on the bill, yet she does no harm whatsoever to our everyday lives?

And yes, the new bill does look great, cant wait to crunch one.

Many countries. I don't think the countries they come from really have an effect on the real issue which is that the Canadian refugee system is a passive, "charity" system that by no means encourages cultural integration or hard work.

But then I guess that's the whole point of a "refuge". And I'm not saying that no refugees become functioning members of society - many do - but others go through generation after generation barely learning to speak English, and to make matters worse, they fall into cliques, show hostility toward mainstream culture, even more hostility toward important partners (i.e. the USA), and think this is perfectly OK because they have the "right" to live this way. It's a slippery slope, because the more this happens, the wider the "support network" becomes for others who want to live this useless lifestyle.

I don't think this helps our society, no matter what country they're fleeing from.

charter of rights - has created a whole host of problems. The mentally ill used to be forced to seek treatment but no it's their "right" to live on the street and freeze their ass off. Not to mention what it has done to our justice system. Criminals get off easy in Canada thanks to the COR and the criminal code that came from it. Oh yes and the whole equality issue that came from it. The COR disallows racist practices EXCEPT when it is a private institution such as an italian club lets say. Then its OK to disallow people who are non-italian. I'd love to see what would happen if someone opened a Canadian only club of some kind LOL

Socialized medicine - costs us almost half of all taxes taken in. almost 50 cents of every tax dollar goes to this mess and we still cant get a doctor in less than 2 months. To get a PHYSICAL i had to wait four months for god sake. And what do we do about it? Fix it? No way, instead we demonize anyone who would dare try as anti-canadian and throw even more money at a failed cause.

Multiculturalism - What Diginut said. If you don't like the way it is when you arrive, go the fuck home. Imagine if I showed up in another country and tried to tell them how to run things. The problem is not who we let in, it's how many. We bring too many people from the same culture all at once. The result is that they don't integrate into Canadian society and form their own communities. They effectively shut Canadians out and sometimes don't even need to learn english. This is wrong. I'm all for retaining culture but you should come to Canada to become Canadian. I might add that as many good qualities immigrants bring from their perspective cultures they also bring the bad. There is no denying the import of gangsterism from Jamaica and the hostilities of Sri Lanka and the Tamil gangs that exist in Toronto. Now do you think this would be such acute problems if people put Canadian values first? Nope. Instead we'd be fighting with the french! LOL
