Survey: Yahoo, MSN catching up to Google

Google Inc. provides the best overall consumer experience among major Web search engines, but Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp.'s MSN have made significant gains in popularity since May 2004, according to a study by Keynote Systems Inc. Participants in the survey also chose Google as the search engine they would most likely use in the future. Google, Yahoo and MSN are the top three search engines, in that order, based on overall consumer experience, Keynote found in a survey of 2,000 consumers, the results of which it released on Thursday. Ask Jeeves Inc. and Lycos Inc. round out the top five, the San Mateo, California-based Web performance monitoring company said.

In a very low key announcement on his blog, Ben Goodger, lead developer for Firefox, has announce that effective from a couple of weeks ago, he has become a Google employee. In practice his day to day job won't change that much, in that he will still lead Firefox through its forthcoming releases, but with Google paying his wages, we can be sure that new and interesting overlap between the Mozilla Foundation's browsers and Google's services are sure to develop

Google releases video search !

Personally, I'm a little dissapointed that you can't actually view the videos that Google finds; as is the product seems pretty useless to me. Lets hope we'll be able to view those videos in the future.

I was just going to talk about this. It SUCKS SHIT compared to Yahoo's video search, which, well, uh, actually gives you VIDEOS.

Tell Google to fix that shit, durafei.

I just had a big argument with my roomate about it.

Yahoo's Video Search is actually pretty straight forward to implement. It's exactly the same as Image search, only looks for files ending with .mpg, .avi etc(instead of .jpg, .gif). I don't why Google doesn't offer that kind of Video search, but I highly doubt that it's due to the complicated nature of the problem.

The potential of what Google has to offer with their Video Search is enormous... if they ever start showing the videos.
