yep you are wasting your time if you plan on properly learning it

cds wont help you get the accents right, which are really quite important in france, as a lot of the language is dependent on how you pronounce the word, unlike english where you can pretty much understand the word as long as its said phrenetically

i thought i knew french until i actually went to france on exchange for 7 weeks. that improved my knowledge of the language amazingly

i reckon you should learn as much as you can from the cd roms, watch a shitload of french movies - firstly with the subtitles then without them, and once you can understand a decent amount of whats said in the movies... ie 60% - take a holiday to the country for a month or 2.

boy i was expecting something like this a lot sooner hehehe. i definitely know what you're saying man. i'm a little worried about it because i mean eventually i'd like to be basically fluent so obviously tapes isn't gonna do that. i'll probably end up taking some kind of intensive course and try to go to europe some time in the future...that'd be great!
