i'll have to disagree a little here and hope this kind of interviews don’t become popular. imo it's a huge disrespect the way the questions were asked, and even more when the interviewer is clearly not well informed.

as you can see in the first two questions, Armin evaded the topic and didn't say anything about the “lame-formulic-boring-trance” but he answered something about how there are other genres produced by Armada. and the question about he has sold out? WTF? He is Armin van Buuren not some cheese pop artist FFS, he is the world’s # 3 DJ and everybody knows that even if it was true, nobody would ever accept it... totally unnecessary question.

it is because of this kind of disrespects why there is this eternal press-artist battle and although Armin answered like a gentleman, i'm sure he felt really uncomfortable with the unnecessary questions from some ignorant interviewer whose intention was clearly focused on personal destructive criticism and hided behind the “some people say...” coward kind of questions.

Since he's rated number 3 in the world by the fans surely the people who put him where he is (in a popularity contest not a contest based and rated on pure ability) they should be able to ask him whatever they want to. What's the point of having 7 questions when you're not going to fire the awkward ones in, or would you rather read one as follows

1. omfg armin how are you
2. armin why do i love you
3. armin what are u doing
4. where do you like playing (bearing in mind he's in toronto so will automatically say 'well i love toronto')
5. Armin can i have your babies
6. omfg i heard a song on ASOT and i want to know when it's out
7. Armin do you like meatballs

What is the point in us running an interview like that. If we were going for a job interview or being questioned by the police or anything, we'd be expected to answer awkward questions. While he tried to get around them a bit, he did a decent job, and imo these types of interviews are as warranted as others, it gives other viewpoints on him and he's known for wanting to be treated 'like a normal guy' and so be it. Just because you have a problem with andy (and me) doesn't mean you can moan about something he's gone to trouble to do. If you want to see the same old questions then fine, but it's boring to have them all the time.

Keep the tough questions coming.

It's a lot more interesting the the standard questions you hear in most interviews, and it keeps the DJs on their toes

there are different, more effective ways of avoiding kissing ass, which you claim to be doing, when, in fact, you switched to the other end of the spectrum, actually insulting the artist. be neutral about it, at least; objective.
right now it's in all honesty sounding like 'i.vibes, in unison, thinks this of you, and we're just letting you know. by the way, though, what do you think about that?'
you could have asked the same questions with differend wording, while still respecting the artist, and that's really all i'm suggesting you do. rephrase, so that you don't kiss the artist's ass but so that he doesn't think you should take your thumb out of yours and respects you in return. of course, you might not care about respect, but i can assure you he will not respect the website, especially if this is part 1, and will probably stop answering or completely contributing after a series of this type of questions.
nothing personal here. just an objective, possibly constructive comment.

and, jesus, andy, don't say comments are always welcome, good or bad, if you're ego's gonna come into play when responding to them. you're an interviewer, keep that in mind. roll with it. good or bad.

quote:
I can ask whatever questions why heart so desires or anyone on my site wants me to ask and I'll continue going about my interviews that way. I obviously know far more than you, so your feeble attempt at telling me that I'm not up on my facts is null and void. This was the first interview with Armin, where the interviewer has not kissed ass and frankly I'm not going to kiss any ass, you want to see ass kissing with the same boring questions, go read trance.nu. I'll continue asking my questions, no matter how blunt or brutal they may be. If deejays get offended at these questions, they should obviously not do interview and they are obviously in the wrong business. As I stated many times over the years, I have the guts to do things that most of you only dream about and I'm not going to stop. Love me or hate me, you still will read the interviews and I'm going to start asking more tough questions to deejays. It is about time that interviewers and writers pulled their lips off the labels and deejays asses and actually accomplished what they are supposed to do, give their audience, what it wants. My audience wants tougher questions in interviews, so I'm going to give them what they want.

same goes for i.vibes, actually-- stop defending yourself. we're not even insulting the integrity of what you're doing, and you're responding and defending yourselves and insulting the actors. you, on the other hand, did insult the integrity of the artist and armin rolled with it like a gentleman. i really suggest you do the same, except as interviewrs.

hahaha

I love the hostility that has come out of the woodwork. I'm pushing the medium further than probably most have ever done it in terms of internet edm news sites. Just remember your other sites are not doing it nor will they do it because they just don't have the balls to do it. So continue to enjoy your same question interviews, I've done what my audience wanted and judging by the emails that I got, they sure as heck loved it.

I never realized ASOT was broadcast here in Boston...have to look into this.

hiding behind "some people say..." kind of questions is not exactly what i would call the "balls" you say you have. why don't you ask him directly what you think? it's a fact your hate towards DJ Mag top djs so whay don't you say it's your opinion instead of some other people's?
or is this just a marketing strategy from ivibes.nu? is this whole attention whoring just a trick to grab the attention to a site in decadence who desperately needs an audience? i really don't see any other explanation.

All my haters have appeared, I knew that would happen. What ego is it, when you simply point out that you are doing things that people don't have the guts to try. 95% of the emails that I have got have been very positive. See whether you hate me or like me is a null point, you still read the interview and that was the entire point behind the thing. It achieved the desired result, which was to show people that I'm not afraid to ask questions. Actually the first two questions were not just my view, actually there were the views of some people, who I won't identify because there is no need. You people live in a glass house, scared that you might break something, if you ask the wrong question or that there are rules that we can't break, by asking tough questions to artists. I find this thread highly amusing, so continue your hating....
