Correct-a-mundo! Symetry in particular, so that at least the reflections you do get will be roughly the same for both L & R.

Agreed. Mackies will be my next move, but not until I have a larger room and a symetrical setup.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic as the above is really regarding production (and recoring dj mixes).

For djing, I reckon the more reflective & wacky the room is the better/more fun! (just my preference ). I like natural big room reverb on my trance.

anyone know anything about wall mounting and such? i want them up on the corners but i'm a little worried there wouldn't be brackets out there that could support its weight

can anyone here recommend some good self powered amp/speakers that would be erasonably cheapish, but good enough to use as monitors for mixing at home, and as big speakers for home parties etc etc.

some trivia

steve may made open day using behringer truths

for 800+ i still think they're highway robbery.
shop around. never pay rrp, there's always room to move.
i remember them being offered down at billy hydes blackburn for 550 at an annual sale. [though that was a year ago. regardless, shit depreciates no?]

you're not wrong there jay.. they're a bit pricey, but man.. anythings better than using headphones and if i have to pay a bit more for decent monitors, that's what i'll do. i've been shopping around though, gonna try and get a bit of 'bang fer my buck'.

For studio use at home I strongly recommend a pair of decent studio monitors. Stage monitors such as what Josh mentioned are more for performance versus recording and therefore I don't recommend these for home use.

Here is a budget studio monitor shoot-out that I found most usefull:
http://www.digitalprosound.com/2002...or_shootout.htm

The Behringer Truth's are the best value budget studio monitor on the market and we have therefore decided to stock them at Vinyl Warning. See http://www.vinylwarning.com.au/prod...roducts_id=9879

but in all honesty, by using crap equipment... your not really going to progress anywhere especially if you wanna be a "better" dj.

yes prominent djs make money through producing, but they didnt start producing on a kmart tape recorder stealing melodies from pop songs on ugly phils top 30.

they would've made a few sacrifices in order to get some sort of decent equipment where mix tapes would at least sound half decent.

and yes soups your hearing this from a professional. if i had 3 kids to feed i wouldnt be wasting money a very expensive hobby. buy your kids some tonka products. im sure that would bring you alot more happiness than a new mixer

I'm buying a $200 set...
It will have these:

1 mike,
-CD, Cd/R/ CD +G
- Top loading Dual CDs
-Scratch pad, and 6 sound effects
- Pitch adjustment
-echo/balance
-2 speakers with high output
-2 Mike inputs

Fuck you all... and God Bless K-mart

It's all i can afford, and I'm a beginner.... I'm also getting kicked out of home

I'm a little confused... do DJs just use a beat indicator to line up their beats, or do they use their headphones to [lay around with the sounds (like 5 minutes ahead of what's playing now), and then "confirm" what they want...

because if u think about it, u can use special effects to do a transition between tracks... like take for exmaple if i wanted to do a transition to DJ -Tiesto, walking on clouds, and I wanted to enter ont hat bit where Tijs uses synths, and changes their pitch (Kinda loud and annoying), this is near the start of thetrack, would it be possible for me to use a high-pitch sound effect, adn then all the sudden switch tracks to that very part.....
