i dont think that muslim countries stifle artists creativity to the lengths that you are speaking of. alot of these countries have a rich musical heritage that comes through in the artists of that country. i think your confusing freedom of creativity with comercialization. these countries you speak of (middleastern) dont have the fully developed music industry that north america and europe have. just because they dont have alot of published works from this area doesnt mean they dont exist.

i have never been to the middle east, and im quite certain you havent either, but i think that if your going to even come close to winning this argument you might want to visit sometime and gain some first hand intel into the music scene. vast generalized satements dont hold up too well.

nightlife is deeply anchored in the middle eastern way of life simply because during the day people cannot do much because its way too hot.

so at night, they gather and listen to music, dance, eat and drink.

Its not because you never heard of big artists coming out from there that there isn't any. Music is very alive and doing well over there, its part of our lifestyle. And Arabic itself is a litterary language more than a scientific one, the best poetry out there were written in Arabic.

I am very excited to go back there really soon to check out how people are doing and having fun. It will be fun to witness.

And you know, I have witnessed here in Montreal that alot of promoters and club owners are from the middle east, because maybe without fully knowing it they brought with them the need for a nightlife.
