There were a lot of people close to him that didnt like the way he was going in 99, and hes lost a lot of friends because of the direction he took in those years... that 99 tracklist youve just given me is an example of PvD at his very worst.
but compare it to the 97 playlist anyway, the 97 one has a lot more of a techno element, his remix of you cant escape & chinese burn are both really dark & quite acid tracks...
looking at a handful of playlists really doesnt mean anything, but im sure you can see that hes definately not got 'more techy' in recent years. Id say the opposite was true. If you dont know the tracks from 97 and before, then dont make the claim. |
I think it was the forbidden city mix of Chinese Burn, unless that's a mislabel. His version is exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned his old stuff on Vorspung D T being more acidy and techy.
And for the guy that said prog is easier to mix, that depends. Some prog is and some isn't. Tempo doesn't mean shit. It's track interaction that can be tougher playing trance. But if the dj is playing trance and waiting until the end of the track to mix, it's not difficult at all. It's under and overlapping well that is tough with trance, but I have been playing a lot of ethereal or melodic progressive that is equally difficult. Sometimes it's even harder, because the basslines vary more and are more prominent fixtures in the song. So you can't really generalize like that. If your reasoning was true, D n B would be the hardest genre to mix, but that's not really the case.
Edit - Also, I went to see Markus for the first time recently. The latter part of his set was uptempo trance, aka Rank One - Breathing (airwave) Breaks mix, etc. He did fine on those mixes too.
