EMO makes me want to vomit, or go on a killing spree (not sure which).

Indy doesn't bother me as much, the singers' voice's irritate me, but not to the homocidal point that EMO's do.

Emo is beautiful even if it's true the trendy factor is truly annoying.

Q. How many emo kids does it take to change a lightbulb?
A. None, they just sit in the dark and cry

Q. How many emo kids does it take to change a lightbulb?
A. 2 - one to change the lightbulb and the other to write a poem about it

Q. How many emo kids does it take to change a lightbulb?
A. 2 - one to change the lightbulb and drop the old one, and the other to cut themselves with the shards of the broken lightbulb

nah, GC is more like pop-punk rather than emo...of course they do have the emo look (black long hair, painted fingernails, all black outfits etc..)

emo is, as i think its already been pointed out, is emotional punk.. there are several degrees of emo.. from the whiney emotional to the angst emotional hardcore.

most emo is about losing a girlfriend or how life sucks or something. but not always

I don't know, both of them are annoying, we've a huge flood of all these crappy pop-punk/emo bands now just now (SP, GC, Yellowcard, etc etc etc) and also boring indie that's too annoyingly boring to even be good background music (Libertines, HOTS, etc)

I don't understand either. With most genres I dislike, I understand the reasons why other people do like them (e.g. I don't like RnB, but people like to dance/sing along to it) . But not these ones.

i hate the trendy emo style. but i love emo. go figure.

i used to listen to loads of emo before i got into EDM, and i still go back and listen to a few of my favorite bands (who were my favorite bands before they got all "cool" on MTV). the main reason i took such a drastic jump from emo ---> trance, is because i was sick of listening to music that made me depressed.

i just want to post the lyrics to one of my favorite songs by an emo band, to show that not ALL emo music is about being depressed...

Dashboard Confessional - "Hands Down"

Breathe in for luck, breathe in so deep
This air is blessed, you share with me
This night is wild, so calm and dull
These hearts they race from self control
Your legs are smooth as they graze mine
We're doing fine, we're doing nothing at all

My hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me
So won't you kill me, so I die happy
My heart is yours to fill or burst, to break or bury
or wear as jewelery, which ever you prefer

The words are hushed let's not get busted
Just lay entwined here, undiscovered
Safe in here from all the stupid questions
"Hey did you get some?"... Man, that is so dumb
Stay quiet, stay near, stay close they can't hear
So we can get some

My hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me
So won't you kill me, so I die happy
My heart is yours to fill or burst, to break or bury
or wear as jewelery, which ever you prefer

Hands down this is the best day I can ever remember
Always remember the sound of the stereo,
the dim of the soft lights,
the scent of your hair that you twirled in your fingers
And the time on the clock when we realized it's so late
And this walk that we shared together

The streets were wet and the gate was locked
so I jumped it, and let you in
And you stood at your door with your hands on my waist
and you kissed me like you meant it
And I knew that you meant it
that you meant it, that you meant it
I knew that you meant it, that you meant it

anyway there's lots of good emo out there that is very deftly written. don't judge an entire genre based on what you see on MTV or the way kids in high school adapt to trends. we all know the stereotypes of electronic music, so let's not do the same to other genres of music, whether you appreciate them or not.

Very well-put.

Ok, this is what gets me the most about emo, more than any other group of music lovers.

99.9% of all the people I know that like Emo/Indie Rock (I know a bunch!) will only listen to Emo/Indie Rock, and wont ever EVER even give a chance to another genre of music. They wont even listen to it to see what it sounds like. I know people that listen to rap that like trance, people who like rock that like rap, and people who like trance that love tons of other music (out side of EDM).

I will give other music a chance, but my emo friends, run scared.

Thats the thing that gets me the most.

Guess I am the .1% I cant say I am an EMO fan - but I give anything a chance. Plus I have a problem lumping EMO and Indie together.

One more thing, Modest Mouse is not EMO - they have numerous albums out and albeit some are whiny like EMO - but it's like saying a particular DJ only plays Deep House - when a set could have numerous EDM.

I think if you lump ANY genre of music as SUCKing you limit yourself. Listen, then make a choice, which I think a number of electronic music fans are open too. Just dont say all of one genre sucks - you may find yourself liking something around the corner.

Quit whining about EMO - the genre whines enough.
