sounds like u got the full meal deal: 2 cd players and a mixer. Also sound like it's all in one piece. If there are pitch controls, u should be able to match the beats (to some degree). Even if you went out and spent 2000 on some new equipment, it isn't gonna make things that much easier. Just try to start with pitch bending with the pitch controls.

yeah sounds like its a mixer/cd decks all in one thing. they are generally quite shite.

your headphone problems will be arising from you not pressing the right cue button. usually you can slect which channel on the mixer to have coming through the headphones, with a cue selection button or switch. some cheaper 2 channel models just have a little cross-fader going from channel 1 to channel 2 (note this is seperate from the mixer's main cross-fader).

the knobs labelled bass, mid, and high (or treble) are your eq knobs. these affect how much of each frequency of sound comes out of the channel. use this to swap bits of the 2 tracks about, e.g. you can swap which track's bass kick is coming out by having that track's bass eq up, while the other one is down.

Well actually if I get the Pioneer mixer, and the Pioneer CDJs, there'll be $150 rebate for the decks ($150 each, so if I bought two, then $300 all together? --this is for CDJ-1000 MKII though) and $200 rebate for the mixer? (so $500 all together)

And ultimately you could do more with CD decks right? (it just seems that way? -yet vinyl is more "professional"?) And you guys think the DJM 600 or DJM 3000 mixer would be the best complement to the decks?

Screw the rebates, the actual items are still too expensive.

I'm gonna try checking ebay for this stuff, any other suggestions on where to look for good second hand equipment?

you better check the smallprint carefully before jumping in. there might be some clause that states only 1 rebate per customer or something.

true, CD decks do do more than just play the cd's, but at the end of the day its 2 turntables and 1 cd deck that is the standard for a club (vinyl sounds better on big systems). if you plan on progressing to club djing, you will need to learn how to use turntables eventually but for now you are fine with the cd decks and it wil probably save you some money on vinyl until you do get a deck or somehting...

Its seems like the average CD deck is WAY more expensive than the average turntable that uses vinyl. Even on ebay. But consequently vinyls are way more expensive than CDs ...

I'm still open to getting turntables (though a bit weary on the vinyl costs), I think the CDJ-1000s are way to expensive, even the mixers you guys suggested are way too expensive :/ -- are there any other cheaper ones that could be good (whilst not totally sucking)?

Hmmm, well what do you guys think about :

quote:
2 Technic SL-1200 Mk2 turntables

One LIKE NEW Gemsound Pro mixer. 4 inputs with mic input, crossfader, full monitoring capabilities, headphone output. One recording output, One amp output. 4 channel stereo mixer is capable of mixing combinations of two magnetic phono turntables and two stereo line-level devices (such as a CD player or tape deck) plus a microphone. A special mic "talkover" feature lowers music volume when desired, so announcements can be clearly heard. Bright light L.E.D. output lights.

One Brand new pair of Behringer Dynamic Stereo Headphones (or a pair of equal value).
Studio monitor series speakers. Stereo unimatch plug for use with various audio equipment 18Hz - 22kHz These have quality, thick, durable cord for endurance which is great for djs. Soft Foam ears, long cord and also comes with the 1/4 adapter included.

2 Mint condtion DJ needles, headshells, and cartridges.
Great for good highs and lows, and work well for scratching too!

as a starting setup for me and my intent to make trance? This is off ebay btw, so I'm not sure if I'll be the winning bidder (the price also might get too high, I'm not sure).
