ahh but the version where you have to download the game from the Valve servers with the coupon you get, you have to. I guess its works with that, sorry for confusing people.

the only reason why steam tries to connect to the net is because i will always try to automaticlly download updates thus eliminating the hassles of patching

I didn't have any problems with hl2 and hl2 dm when updating files and installing/unlocking. It took a long time though (about 1 hour) There was some sort of error when launching CS source for the first time so i skipped it for now
